I hunted Saskatchewan deer for years with a No.1 in 7x57. Stupidly, sold it once I got a little Husqvarna 4100 in 7x57. Have since bought a No.1 chambered in "275 Rigby" - the 2" longer barrel has got to make it better, right?? - edging into 22" 280 Remington performance levels? However, turns out I still can not get my fat face down enough on the comb to be able to use the cool looking iron sights, and, at least for now, I am not willing to work down the comb height - I am too old to see iron sights very well anyways, and it is an absolutely perfect height for me with the Vari-X III in 2.5-8x36. With Nosler bullets from 120 grains through to 175 grains, it is a "coyotes to moose" rifle, in my mind!

I'm still a big fan of the Ruger #1. Purchased my first one a 1B in 22-250 1977 from Lever Arms for $350.00

With current retail around $2300.00, I'm likely not going to purchase any more new ones.

This thread asked which #1 in a hunting cartridge you just have to have, that if already have covered, The only one I'd consider purchasing now is a 1A in .357 Magnum.

Id like to see Ruger make a few in 8x57 JS (8MM Mauser) with a 24 inch barrel but I could also live with the 275 rigby and 9.3x74r. That would make a nice matched pair to cover all my hunting needs.
