Ya, Exactly what I was thinking JLC… Are there not any rails/handguards that just “fit” like they are supposed to, without this type of Destructive modifications?
The BCM stuff fits without modification, BAD Rigidrail I believe does, Fortis Switch Series fits without modifications... I'm sure there are others.

Know your fitment before purchase. This is the benefit of being later in production rather than first run.
No difference from doing a build on some billet AR-15s.
Note that I agree. What’s “good enough” for me or you may not be the same when it comes to function and form.

About to work on my second one but here’s what I do to avoid shaving anything I don’t intend to: Clamp it with a vice very very lightly(Id take out the locking brackets and barrel nut too), make use of the “meat” of the vice to make sure you don’t ever contact the edges.
Leave enough margin to allow you to finish it with sand paper double sided taped onto a STRAIGHT piece of wood

Has anyone installed a Faxon Cabon fibre handguard on their Modern Sporter? Did it go together OK?
I'm thinking of the 15" or 17" versions (probably the 17") - does anyone have pictures of a 17" handguard with an 18.6" barrel? I will be adding a Lantac Dragon muzzle brake too.

Several have been built with this handguard. One of our complete rifles, the MS LCR Mod 1, uses this handguard.
Yes have the 17" on my Sporter, fits like glove, looks cool as it gets.
