BCL102 Mk7 vs Stag 10 Lev 2

Hi Folks,

Looking to purchase an ar10 of sorts to compliment my M14. Not looking to blow a pile of money, to my knowledge it's mainly the BCL102 and Stag 10 that are contenders.

From what I can tell, the BCL has gone through hell and back and is upgraded in it's Mk7 form. The Stag I guess also had a upgrade to the Lev 2?

So,

1 - has the Mk7 fixed the issues with BCL102 in the past?
2 - Is the $5-700 dollar difference still as significant as it used to be? Or should I just take that 5-700$ difference and put it towards optics?

Bcl 102 has gone through revisions because of problems with function.

Stag lvl 2 is just a different furniture set.

I would pick the one that has not had issues that forced the next generation

On paper the BCL Mk7 looks like it's everything the original BCL 102 model should have been. Perhaps the issues have been fixed but are there enough of them out yet and are there enough of those that have been used enough to prove that the issue have indeed been fixed?

The Stag has long proven that it hasn't needed fixing.

I'd gladly pay the extra for one that doesn't need any proving.
 
Just go into a local store or range that has them and look for yourself fit and finish, if the range has some you can use go ahead and give it ago it will pretty much tell you if it’s worth it in your eyes to justify the price. I had both I like the stag but a proper working bcl is a nice rifle and better ambi control set up I have not held the new bcl but if they are indeed fixed why not then.

If your really curious tho the Calgary shooting centre apparently has a range use mk7 so you could give em a call on round count and reliability so far.

I have a BCL102 MK7 ... I'm really liking it so far. Haven't had any stoppages and it's very accurate out of the box. I replaced the trigger with a Triggertech adaptive because ... Well ... I had it so why not. Also changed the bolt catch and mag release for leftie-friendly setup, and added an A2 stock because I prefer the look and it doesn't wobble like Magpul MOE stock.

I have noticed that it's over-gassed a little so it's swiping the head with the extractor but it's getting less so over usage. Part of the break in I guess.



Only at 50yds, but grouping is 3/4" (ignoring the flyers) with just a bipod and me w/ Federal Power Stok 180gr 308win.
 
Only ONE Stag 10 model/generation (as in the upper and lower), they come in 2 different calibers...same one that has been selling well in the USA for years, ours just have a longer barrel and handguard.

A few different models exist that are "factory" out there that come with some furniture upgrades is all, and the unknown builds IRG brings in...

...because they have been saying since their gen 2 model that "it's fixed and improved". Is gen 7 FINALLY better? Lol...

(don't risk it IMO)

BUILD yourself a Stag 10...stock they are great but I have changed out/upgraded almost everything on mine and probably would have saved some money just doing so from the start BUT I also have had a completed and ready to shoot Stag 10 since day 1 and have slowly upgraded it for 1.5 years which helps space out the costs.

Looks like 4x 1.25" groups at 50 yds. So 2.5 MOA rifle which is about average for the type.

Measuring from center of bullet impacts the largest group (top left) was just slightly over 1" ... Ignoring the occasional flyer and groups are 3/4" @ 50yds.

Not terrible considering it was a windy day with hunting ammo and bipod shooting. Also keep in mind this was literally right out of the box. The shots you see are the first ones after sighting in (which took 3 shots).

Good accuracy if you're ignoring the occasional flier. :)
