Glock 48 Sights?

Gonna be buying a Glock 48. But I’m unsure whether to go with the Glock Night Sights, or spring for the additional $80 bucks for the Ameriglow sights. Money is rather tight, so I’d rather spend it on ammo.

Opinions please?
 
The Glock OEM sights work just fine. They are durable, easy to adjust, are easy to pick up for a great sight picture, & they are easy to change out if you desire.
Nothing wrong with them or Glock would not include them/use them for their ENTIRE pistol line. Sure, some people don't like them & prefer to upgrade to something else. Not junk, just good, standard sights that work.
 
Can someone with some real life experience post as to why the Glock polymer sights are no good?

Do they break in cold weather? Do they come loose? Does the paint come off? What is it?

Lots of people don't like the rear sight with the white half-box and would rather dots or just straight black. Many others don't think any factory sight is good and they all need replaced regardless of whether it's a Glock, S&W, etc.
 
I used a black Sharpie to darken the side bars of the white U shape on the stock rear sight. Now it kind of looks like the Dot over bar of a Sig. Washes off with solvent if you don't like it.

You'll screw them up (abraded edges) over a short time if you use a holster, you'll almost instantly screw them up (as in "anyone see my rear sight?") if you try to do a one handed reload. If you're going to stand at a table and shoot and use the table as your holster, they're marginal mostly due to the silly 'bean in a bucket' sight picture. The factory night sights are better than the basic, and the Ameriglos are quicker, easier to pick up and more durable than either.

Just turn it around. I have done that to some of my Glocks. I don't like the white lines.

My Glock 48 has a set of Williams Fire Sights. Got them on ebay for $41USD. I really like them.

They're good in as much as they're cheap. Ken Hackathorn calls them "dovetail protectors". I like the fact that they're cheap (so Glock can keep the price of the pistol affordable), and that they're easy to swap out (for whatever you want), so whomever wants to keep them can keep them and whomever wants to change them can change them, and they can do it easily. In this respect, I hope that Glock never changes it.

You want to talk about sights that are 'no good'? How about those abominations on the slide of the Springfield XD. No choice, and super difficult to change; that is my idea of 'no good'.
 
IMO, the only time an all black front sight is useful is if it’s thin, has an undercut and mounted on a target, silhouette or hunting pistol with an adjustable rear sight.

A fixed sighted modern handgun requires either a tritium, FO or combination front sight only. I prefer the rears to be completely black personally. I think the best set of stock factory sights these days comes on the Shadow Sp-01/2.

The Trijicon XD and the Dawson Precision are great choices. Not perfect for pure target shooting but great for fast target acquisition.

I consider them to be just as junk as the base sights with their night sight material added. If you have any need for night sights, order ameriglo or trijicon. If you don't order a good set of steel sights for less than the glock night sight upgrade. Their lack of durability for one handed reloads and such was already mentioned.

I've been shooting Glocks since the early 1990's. My preference is a 3 dot sight.

Most of my shooting experience with Glocks is with 3 dot nite sites. That's my current preference as well.
