Ok, so I'm really looking into buying a Ruger MK III right now, and actually spent a good part of the day today going to pretty much every store in Vancouver with a friend trying to find the best place to buy one, so just now I was on youtube looking them up for something to do. and came across this video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjbsuJhr_zE

Someone with a MK III 22/45 was firing Remington Thunder bolts through it and apparently, they are coated with Wax, so I'm assuming when the gun is fired the heat melts the wax and as the guy says in the video it gets forced into the rifling of the barrel. I've got 100 rounds of thunder bolts and I'm assuming that this type of damage doesn't only occur on a MK III specifically so I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else with another type of firearm? Or quickly looking at the comments on the youtube page, is this something to do with Remington ammo in general?

and if theres any MK III owners out there, any Recommendations on what ammo to use when I get mine?

The "damage" from that video would be simple to clean. It seems pretty extreme.

Anyhoo,

My MIII loves federal bulk pack and winchester dynapoints. :D

Be wary of alarmist videos. If you can't find support for it through Google or any other search engine, it's most likely bull####.

Have used Thunderbolts in my Mark III 22/45. They work, but gum up my Cliploader, magazines, etc.
I prefer 40 grain Dynapoints, have yet to try out the Federals, but I'm sure they'll work fine.

Thunderbolts are worst ammo I tried in my S&W 617. In one 300 rounds session, I discovered that I was shooting the last few rounds with half
bore. There was "half bullet" buildup about 2 inches down the barrel.

The gun was shooting "paper", but this was my first gun and first shooting.
Since then I learned one thing: Examine bore after 10-20 rounds of any
new ammo. Thunderbolts need cleaning after about 50 rounds.
This might be a good hunting round, you know, you walk all day and shoot
twice, but for the range you'll need something cleaner.

The lead WILL come off, you just have to clean it longer.

I have had issues with several different brands of 22 handgun when using dry lube or very light wax lube. Some guns have slight imperfections in the bore and the lead build up is fast and nasty. Almost half the bore diameter was constricted with lead and it was a bugger to get out. The simple fix is to move on to copper plated bullets. I have yet to have a problem with them.

Alright well thanks for your input guys, I'll probably end up using the federal bulk pack ammo, since a few people have recommended that to me and I hear its really cheap, but the nearest wallmart is kinda far away.......

Although it would explain why a brick of thunderbolt only cost 15$ , I inspected my MKIII 22/45 again to make sure and I dont see anything abnormal . Shot thousand + rounds withouth cleaning and i didnt even use a bore brush last time i did and it s clean as a whistle . I cant explain y but it seems like this video is BS . Or maybe there is another factor in this?? I actually use thunderbolts because my ruger loves them and they re cheap . Only ammo as good would be the CCI but they re 3 times more expensive !!! So after 5 000 rounds u can buy urself a new MKIII with the money u save on ammo . So who cares if this myth is true !!!

Is my mark III different then others or am i just lucky??? I ve had no issue with thunderbolts . In fact i just bought 3 bricks today . I get 6 duds in a brick maybe less . I get way more with rem targets , eagle , or other kind of bulk ammo .
