Hey Wolverine, I heard you guys had a few Brownells' rifles submitted with RCMP and I've been following the development of the BRN-180 uppers and now the lowers. I'm wondering if these lowers have a chance at being Non-restricted considering they are designed specifically for their uppers. I know an AR15 upper would fit physically but wouldn't function because you can't install a buffer tube.

Not so, if the buffer spring can't be used then there may be hope

Looking at the pictures even if it did fit and fire, it wouldn't be safe and the firearm would not cycle.

All depends on how they go with this, if they treat it like the MCX or not.

It will be classified as a variant of an AR, Just like a SIG MCX. while a regular AR upper will not work on the BRN lower there are other piston uppers that don't need a buffer like the River Rock's LAR PDS and ZM lr-300 uppers that will work

Brownells is also producing AR-180 lowers, there's no reason for them to be banned when then AR-18B and WK-180C are non-restricted here too

Their 180 lower is actually an AR15 lower that looks like an ar180, but with a rail instead of a buffer tube hole to attach folding stocks/braces.

Just so everyone is aware, if the rcmp lab can make the rifle fire a single shot with an ar15 upper, to them its an ar 15. This has historically been done using wire and ductape. So if an AR 15 upper fits the brn 180 lower, and fires a single shot, and explodes as a result, yes, its an ar 15 lower. Thats just the ridiculous laws folks, thought youd all be used to the lack of logic by now.

If it can't work as an AR15 it's not an AR15

But it does work. (single shot)

The same argument could be made for a Palmetto State Armory AR-9, (or similar Angst Arms 9mm rifles.)

You can mate any .223 upper to their lower, and fire off a shot.
You can't insert a magazine and shoot semi-auto. But you can fire it single shot.
So they are restricted as an AR-15 variant.

Now compare that to the Freedom FX-9 rifle.

They used a proprietary (oddball sized) receiver for their build.
No AR-15 upper can be mated to their lower. Simply not possible.
Therefore non-restricted if barrel is long enough.

Touche

I was not aaare that that was the rules.

I guess a sinhle shot soon to break rifle is more dangerous than a VZ.58 haha

Brownell BRN-180 was designed to an AR lower's dimensions it was meant to be used on any AR lower, it doesn't even fit on an AR 180 lower.

PSA and Angstadt are both classified as an AR variant not because RCMP can fire a single shot out of a 223 upper, but rather Colt already have a 9 mm rifle (model 6951) the upper will work with the PSA and Angstadt without any modification, model 6951 was made, market and sold by Colt as a AR 15 variant.

Brownells needs to make a BRN180 upper that fits the NODAK lowers. Looks like it would be relatively simple given how their uppers are made. Would be a big seller up here

They aren't AR15 receivers because they do not share a history. they are modified AR180s which are not restricted by name.

I need to drill and tap one hole to make it compatible with every AR-15 upper ever made.

One hole.
