I fell in love with the Volquartsen straight pull on first sight.
Are there any other straight pulls out there that will not break the bank?

Anschutz fortner actions

Yeah, #### the bank. Fortner all the way.

Among the first straight pull actions was the Finnbiathlon rifle, made between 1976 and 1984. My brother who competed in biathlon in the 1980s had one. Since then Anschutz rifles with Fortner straight pull actions have dominated the sport.

Other straight pull biathlon rifles included the Izhmash Bi-7-3 below, and the Izhmash Bi-7-2 following.

The Krico 360 S II operated it's bolt by moving the pistol grip like a lever. Not many of these rifles were built.

Centerfire straight pull actions are made by Lynx Rifles. See, for example, h t t p ://lynxrifles.fi/about/

Izhmash 7-3/7-4 are still used by Rus or Ukrainian athletes in biathlon. But to about a 5% margin, under the Anschutz Fortner.
I have a 7-4 Biathlon and love it.

I think the new ISSC rifles are marketed as the Scout. Basically the SPA with an integral rail and different stock shape.

I have the SPA. It's an interesting action. Like the Volquartsen/PWS and the Finnish and Russian biathlon rifles, the action is more of a toggle lock than a bolt. I don't find the SPA much faster than a standard turn bolt simply on account of the force needed to open and close the action, but maybe that'll break in over time.
