Thinking about upgrading my hunting setup that I currently have (Rem 700 sps)

I’ve been looking at different options and my criteria are
1- 308 caliber
2- stainless
3- smooth action
4- light

Managed to narrow down to three options
1- browning x bolt
2- Sako a7
3- tikka T3x

I wanted to see what your recommendation would be (pros cons) and also of there’s another make abs model I should also consider

Thanks

I've been researching this for a while now as I've been thinking of moving off of my x-bolt medallion 308 for either the x-bolt stainless stalker, A7 roughtech pro or sako finnlight. Some differences to consider would be barrel length, magazine capacity and barrel twist rate. I'm leaning towards one of the sako's so when the weather is nicer I'll head to my LGS to handle them. I know he's got all of them in 308 in stock.

Another vote for a Kimber Montana if you are looking for a light rifle.
The Kimber Hunter would also work if you are looking at something with a detachable Magazine.

To me, it does not make sense to buy a long action rifle that has the magazine box shortened to accommodate short cartridges. The Tikka does that I think. Correct me if I'm wrong.
So did the old Model 70's. If you are going to have a full length action use a full length cartridge.

Just my opinion.

1st choice - Tikka superlite, preferably in a McMillan hunters edge stock (I have 2)

2nd choice - sako finnlite, preferably in a McMillan hunters edge stock

3rd choice - Kimber montana, although I have never handled one, weight is great and stock is Kevlar/higher end. I wish they offered the hunter bottom metal and detachable mags on these

I’m partial to Tikkas in a hunting rifle. Lots of options to customize, usually great shooters with little fussing and lightweight.

They are pedestrian, uniform and soulless but they work very well and if inclined you can dress them up any way you wish.

You might be best off to just build that 700 into your dream gun...:)

But of the ones you listed I pick the T3X or a Sako A7 Roughtec Pro.

I like the Tikka rifles, they shoot very well as is from the factory with off the shelf ammo, are light weight and smooth with a very easily adjusted trigger, and there is excellent and growing aftermarket support for almost anything you would want.

I currently have 5 Tikka rifles, two are stainless hunters, one with a laminate stock and the other with the factory synthetic. While lots of people gripe about the factory synthetic, I am finding it probably the best "Tupperware" factory plastic stock I have ever used, I added the vertical pistol grip too and that is a nice feature. The other Tikka's I have are the T1X rimfire, and two customers built on the older T3 action.

^^^ another vote for this

Yes. This. Winchester 70 Extreme Weather.

I've got a T3x Super Lite Cerastrat in 30-06 coming from Prophet River, should be here Monday. Its a superlight stainless with the cerracote, bigger bolt handle,5 round mag and swanky stock. Comes with the brake as well as a cap for hunting and the best part is its still a 22 inch barrel and 6lbs unlike a lot of the new wave 26 inch tube'd before the brake tree snaggers they're building today. Check em out
