How long till we see wide spread Sustenance hunting ?

How much fuel do you guys usually burn to go hunting, and how far do you have to travel? I say this realizing all the guys that hunt in their back yard will be the ones to answer.

Reality is the vast majority are better off to save money rather than ammunition right now.

Only 3 km. We are on acreages so the hunting is nearby.

tell me about density of big centers we have and compare it with europe .... we have the 2nd largest country in the world on landmass but where most of the population are ...?

i was not born here nor educate here but on that pandemy sorry to tell you with all the lessons and experiences we received from other countries we are not very cautious. it is just the beginning im sorry to say.

Could be, perhaps I reacted poorly when I sensed a slight coming Canada's way by insinuating that 'if France couldn't do it...Canada hasn't a hope?'
Just that silly pride thing, please continue.

There is a Cow and calf moose hanging around the home quarter this last week. It would be just a little too easy. lol... I would worry about anyone who had cattle out and about.

I doubt many farmers will go hungry....for me I have moose normally within a mile or two of the house, and can glass goats from my living room window. Salmon as close as 200 yards...good supply of wood and clean water.

Its mostly the city dwellers that will really suffer IF things go sideways! :(

I always enjoy how rural folk seem to forget that cars exist.

No, the cooked it over fire with skin and hair on....

My mistake then. I thought they did that with the primate they ate but that the coyote eating episode was just the meat.

Edited to add, just saw the web episode. I thought the tv episode was different but it’s been a while.

Bear season opens April 1. Hopefully my 6.5x54 M-S ammo arrives in time.

If it's not raining I'll be hunting with this old beauty.

im very proud of being Canadian but that will not stop me to be critical. we should learn from the mystakes and succes of others so far we are not following any good patterns. that is only what i meant what it is good to close the borders but not really, what it is good to let people self quarantine if they do not.

This is not the Walking Dead, we still have strong supply chains...

Don’t #### with the narrative it’s a buzz kill. Money will still exist, and be needed more than ever by many. Farms will still farm, and we will likely see a significant depression many of us didn’t think was possible in our lifetimes. Admittedly I likely didn’t believe it deep down either.

who is operating them? human being so ....

The actual mortality rate of Covid-19 is extremely low, significant, but this isn’t a highly transmissible version of Ebola or even the Spanish flu.

Most people that get it will go undiagnosed due to mild symptoms. So the mortality rates are artificially high, as they only measure confirmed cases, which means they were sick enough to seek medical aid. See Tom Hank’s infection, reported cold like symptoms. Doesn’t mean don’t worry about it, but this isn’t the end of the world at all. Economically, it is the end of an era however likely.

Angus,

this is not the end of the world but we do not know who is dying as most of population are not tested and most of the people do not have any symptons: they are starting to find youngs too are affected so not only only old or chronical disease people.

i ve been put in quarantine by a nurse for 2 weeks and i can talk to a doctor over the phone but i will go to the hospital only if im bleeding from the mouth or have respiratory issues and in the same token are not testing me despite dealing with all the people travelling and coming from abroad but those ones are exempted from quarantine: my job was given the title essential now it is critical .. but no measures so far to deal with the public.

when you see the italy or france or even germany it is hard for them to control the population and i will not trust chinese news especially since western world journalists has been asked to go home.

even the tests are not so efficient as they re triggered people with flu only and 2 weeks is not the time for developping from i gathered to the doctor i spoke with yesterday.

so we do not know and can only pray that it will affect us the less we can dream.

Breaking News...montreal 2 police officers infected...100 others under quarantine....hmmmm it could get bad fast! Or maybe not!

Anyways today I plan on filling all my propane bottles, jerry cans, and tidy tanks....it will all get used regardless.

All my equipment will get moved by this weekend to secure/monitored locations....:)

ammunition is about to jump 30% and that was calculated prior to coronavirus and the tanking loonie.
Those who spend a lot of time at the range or have rifles with pricey ammunition are best served to buy what they can afford now.
It's a simple supply and demand game and the demand is increasing drastically regardless of what is causing it.
The virus will slow imports to a crawl so again..... if you have plans that require ammo in the next 2 or 3 years , buy what you can afford now.

We live in a state of self isolation most of the time so not a big switch in life style for us. The supply chain needs to stay open and the disease brought under control at the same time. This is critical to maintaining a calm sense of order. My daughter in Calgary (school teacher will be working online with students) most likely had the virus but was not tested and I think this is commonplace, so hard to say what the the real stats are. People are behaving OK in our area but my Vancouver based daughter ( currently laid off) said not always good behaviour where she is. Son in FSJ is working but not sure for how much longer. Outside the lower mainland people are staying home. We cancelled our NZ trip and started to drive to Vancouver to visit and then turned around last week. Just not worth the risk, at this juncture not even sure why we even considered it? Highway was empty and the motel we stayed at was pretty much empty. US is going to take it very hard so this will have a very negative impact on Canada in a generalized way. There will be changes in how the financial world operates, new players, business failures etc. Will it kill like the Spanish Flu? Don't think so but too early to tell really as it is still settling into the population. That question will be answered in the coming months. Being retired with a pension income means my life is far less complicated than a parent with three kids and a mortgage for example. My thoughts for now are help the elderly to get by and do my best not to develop a bunker mentality towards my neighbours. Very interesting times.
