So I’m pretty new to upgrading ARs and want to put an ambi mag release on a Stag 10. I’m not sure about compatibility issues and was hoping I could find some advice here.
Are standard AR 15 ambis compatible?
Or is there a popular upgrade that might make me consider a more Gucci option?
The Stag 10 is the g.i. version, if that matters for some reason.

Thanks for looking.

I use the Norgon Ambi look alike from TNA initially due to the fact my pistol mags would fall out and the Norgon has a little more meat on the catch.
I like it, works well.

i have the genuine Norton Ambi mag release, looks / feel amazing BUT:
Pmag 5/20 mags: Works perfectly.
XCR 10rds mags: Doesn't lock in a closed bolt with 10 rounds in the mag

Not sure if tightening the mag release couple turns will solve the issue or i have to file the magazine to make it fit better. have to look into it!

My Stag 10 I had 2 XCR 10rds mags and with a Battle Arms Development magazine catch both would lock in, but with one of them after firing the first shot would pop out of the magwell. First I tried to bend the lip on the magazine out and it didnt help at all, also tied to mess with the spring and how many turns when installing the button and nothing changed

So I swapped out that catch for a Titanium one I got from Brownells that was in my spares. And it fixed the issue completely

So I would try another mag catch if you can, because if you get the right one in there the XCR 10rds will work 100%

i had a issue with all 3 of my XCR mags not always catching.
i measured the cut out in the magazines and compared them to Magpul mags and some other brand and found that the XCR ones where the exact size of the mag release where the plastic magazines all had oversided holes.
so i took my dremel and opened up the cut out a mm and magazines lock in tight now.

take your upper off and watch your magazines go in and look to see if the catch is a little off from the hole in the magazine.

yup.

the only difference is the AR15 one is a couple mm smaller.
when STAG made their AR10's they made them to take the AR15 mag releases instead of the AR10 ones.
probably just to make it easier to get.

I figured the "AR heavy" one would also have a higher poundage spring.

Any photos of yours in the gun by chance?!

Can you order from Norgon directly? Shipping to my Michigan PO Box isn’t an option currently.

I had a family member order through Norgon and send me the AR10 heavy months ago, got sick of waiting for Nordic Marksman "Canadian distributor" to take their thumb out of their @$$. Even after requesting if they could do a special order for the AR10 heavy in which I was willing to pay any additional costs, they said no. 6 months and counting with no restock of Norgon product.

I just emailed Norgon to see if they would sell directly, as their "distributor" is asleep at the wheel.
