Model 57 in 41 Magnum

You can't have it even for a horrible deal, never mind a good one! Lol

I've got 300 brass to load, a bunch of 210 gr JHP and then have to wait for ranges to open back up. I'm miserable lately, no range time.

I can't blame you.
fyi I just picked up some Eagle Heritage Coke bottles for a 629 that would also work very well on that 657.

Few responses there so thanks all, pretty much what I expected as far as availability goes.

I have a couple boxes of factory with it so not empty handed at least, that would be tragic!

I'm pretty fired up to start the self loading process anyways so that's that. Looks like there are numerous thread for that as well!

Cheers

Those look good! I've got an original set of targets, but prefer shooting with the Gripper. They fit my hand better.

Ya grips are a finicky thing. The ones I like too hold, the ones I like to shoot, and the ones I like to look at, are all different.

No question the grippers are nice to shoot with.

Has anyone here checked to see how much difference is between k/L frame and the N frame?
I had a set of NOS target grips in both, sold the N last show, still have the K/L ones.

They are different but not by a huge amount. You can fit some k-frame grips on an N-frame but the top part of the backstrap will be exposed on the N frame.
you can kind of see it in this thread. http ://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-revolvers-1980-present/197144-k-frame-grips-n-frame-small-hands. html

Some rubber wrap around like the Hogue X-frame are actually marketed as fitting both K-frames and N-frames. On the N-frame, the rubber grip just stretch out a little more around the top of the backstrap. Interestingly, once you have mounted a Hogue rubber X-frame grip on an N-frame, the slight deformation means it will no longer fit precisely on a K-frame.

As dawg set, they fit close but not perfect. Another thing is that you can have interference between the grip screws and the main spring.

I managed to pick up a 657-4 via a WTB add before Christmas. Its a beautiful gun. There are a few around. There was a add up at my club last summer. A nickle plated 57. I would have taken it but the guy drilled and tapped it for some ugly home made scope bases.IMG_20200104_153312.jpg

A bit dirty from a day at the range

I have an old model Blackhawk in .41. Nice revolver for sure although a previous owner bugger the front sight blade somewhat and I really should fix that. Would love to find a Marlin in .41 to go with it, Henry offers a .41 but they don't interest me. A rebarreled model 92 Winchester would be even better. I'm only interested in medium loads of about 900-1050 fps with a good cast bullet. Pleasant to shoot, accurate, and these loads have never failed to give complete penetration on any paper or cardboard target they have been fired at. Heck they will even completely penetrate a pop can!!! I sure wish that we could hunt with a handgun and the .41 would shine at that.

I like the un-fluted cylinder on it, same as on my 629-3. It's a good look.

As everyone has said...a great N frame and cartridge. I have a 57 like yours (but with target wood grips) and a 657 stainless with 4" barrel. Love them, both are on my 'Never Sell' list. If you reload, put 21.9 gr of H110 behind a 210 gr XTP or JHP, and let er buck! Love it.
The one on the bottom is the 657. (Top to bottom, 686, 629, 625, 657)

Switzer's Auction has a .41 Marlin listed for the April 18th auction.

I managed to find a nickel plated 657-2 8 3/8" barrel a few years ago. It came with 8 boxes of factory ammo. It only took me 10 years to find it...
After the shot went off I knew I was hooked. The .41 is my all time favorite cartridge.
Picked a new 57 Classic last year for some bigger boom rounds. The -2 only sees lead in the 800 - 900 fps range.
I think a Blackhawk is next one the list of must haves.
New factory ammo is around but too over priced for me. I did trade a trailer load of scrap metal for most of a box of lead. It's long gone now.

I really enjoy the .41 magnum barrel on my desert eagle, it has produced the best groups I've ever shot with that gun. There's something just right about .41mag sort of like .44 special. They just shoot!

I’d like to get my hands on a model 58 but I think they were all 4” or shorter.
