How Many Sks's Do You Own????????

None, zero, only collect real milsurps.

Geoff

Can you please explain your statement? I have over 60 rifles in my collection. Two of them are non milsurp. I consider my four SKS types, (not current Norinco) to be legit milsurp, bayo and all. They were issued to various militaries.

yawn. a) just FYI - Chinese version of SKS has participated in a different war - it was in Vietnam b) SKS was tested on a WESTERN front, as it was tested by the Soviet Army, not Germans c) I get a kick out of people who buy an SKS and expect it to be a match rifle.

Yes I am quite familiar of the SKS's history, the Russians actually fought the German Army on the Eastern Front. For the purpose of the competition, an SKS, is an SKS, is an SKS. As a competitive target shooter I expect a certain accuracy out of the guns that I compete with. I have seen SKS's used in a number of matches under 200 yds where speed and accuracy are both required. While the SKS is an extremly fast handing carbine, the accuracy is at 1 minute of gravel pit.

Well Pete, just my personal opinion. When I think SKS, Norinco comes to mind. I've had a few Norc's, fun "blasters" as they are I just dont consider them "milsurps". In other words, if its a genuine M-14 or East-block SKS fine, but recent production Norc 305's and SKS's which probably 90% are not.
Again, just my personal opinion which I have a right to.
Cheers from the peanut-gallery.

As a military rifle it worked rather well for Vietnamese in those insane conditions. And the very same rifle worked for the soldiers and hunters in the Russian North - which is on another side of the extreme conditions. I understand that is is not up to your high standards, but next time competing in a precision shooting, you might want to pick up something more appropriate for the precision shooting. That might help avoiding disappointment. In the end of that war the requirement was not to have a rifle which shoots well in the field, but for a carbin small and fast, which will do well in European towns and big cities. With all the downside of the 762x39 round, try hiding behind a single brick or a wooden wall from that round and you might find out that it si rather hard thing to do. So in your case the problem is not in the rifle, but in wrong expectations.

Anyone notice how any SKS thread brings out the scorn of so many, no matter what the thread was originally about? Even a simple question like "How many?" goes sound fast. Too bad really.

Okay, I'm going to start a new thread, with poll, labelled, "The firearm I hate the most, and why!" so everyone who hates the SKS, or anything else, can get it all out on one thread and stop contaminating all the other threads. GIve me a few minutes to get her up!

Exactly, I have good friends from Sarajevo that can tell you first hand what a 7.62x39 round can do to people, and how many holes they had in their downtown apartment building, which was made of brick and concrete.

If it was a caliber that didn't work it would not be still as popular as it is today.

It happens all the time. Methinks some folks on this board simply lack basic reading comprehension to be able to understand the difference between answering a direct question, and giving an unwanted negative opinion on a subject they not little about in the first place. :jerkit:

Well according to CGN's own definition, "Milsurp: Old stuff buried in the backyard since WW1 and WW2". SKS's being post-war should really be in "Main battle rifles".
Flame away and have a happy Thanks-Giving brothers...LOL!

my sks's...

As of yesterday, I now have two chinese.

First one (vintage 1981) is in great shape, and I got a T6 stock shipped up from the states for it (no hassles like I've heard about, came accross the border pretty smootly actually).

The one I picked up yesterday is a '74 build. rough original stock, otherwise in good shape.Might bubba that one for the mrs.(maybe not...she seems to shoot them better than I do). Of course with the way prices are going for them, maybe I'll wait a month and get $600-$1000 for it :pirate:

just kidding...

And the next person to slag owning SKS's is...

I have no SKS's....

Everytime a shipment shows up I keep thinking I'll add one to the rack, just because. But I never seem to get around to it. Go figure... :yingyang:

Ok now we're really stretching things here Dsiwy. So OK, the very first test SKS's as used by the Russians could be considered true "milsurps" according to CGN description. I stand corrected.

Ain't no stretch at all, just plain old fact. :)

The M43 Cartridge was developed and tested in the SKS.

Now go run along now, and put more cranberry sauce on your Turkey. :p :D
