Thinking about an NR semi with an 18.5" to 21" barrel for competition and I was wondering which one could hold the most 2 3/4" ammo overall?
Not looking at detachable mag models at this time, thank you.

Beretta 1301 and Benelli (among others) can hold 8-rounds of 2.75” shells. You’d have to buy the extended mag tubes and have them plugged less one round however. So the tube will hold six, plus one in chamber and one on the carrier (known as carrier or ghost loading).

The most common, reliable and widely available 3.5” chambered gun is the versamax and it’s 7+1+1 if plugged correctly.

get something with a 3.5' chamber and an after market tube that can ghost load. Permanantly plug the tube at 5.9 rounds of 3.5" (cannot accept a 6th). Add a MatchsaverZ and you have a semi with 10 rounds, given the 10th is on it not in it. There are options out there but most 3.5' chamberings come designed as hunting shotguns, not neccessarily ideal for competition.

Can the Mossbergs and Remingtons do this as well?
Sorry for the silly questions, I'm a pump guy.

Not sure. Casey at Tacord could answer that (give him a call). He mods Versamax all the time. I only have Remington and Mossberg pump guns so can’t help you here. The easiest gun to buy is the 1301 Tactical (18.5”) or Comp (21”) and have Casey plug the Nordic Components mag tube. It’s a fast mod, costs f**k all and screws right into the 1301 in like 2 seconds. And the price for the gun and modded tube combined is peanuts, considering.

My Benelli M4 is 6 X 2.75 in the tube, one in the chamber and one on the carrier plate (ghost loaded ). 8 rounds, no extention, no plugs. Great shotgun.

If you're looking to get 9 rounds legally into the gun;

Remington Versamax is by far the most popular gun for serving that purpose.

It came stock in this configuration, i bought new.

Post a pic of your tube. The M4 as they come have that false extension. With this on how the heck are you fitting 6x 2.75” shells? I think maybe you forgot to put the mag spring in! :d
With my Carrier Comp full-length tube, plugged to hold one less round, I can fit 6 and a bit 2.75” rounds (5.75x 3” rounds to be exact). How you’re you’re achieving this in the factory configuration is absolutely baffling.

Thanks gents!
So, tell me more about this versamax you speak of so fondly.
How can I get 9 in this beast and did/do they have a tactical model?
