CPC Leadership

just joined, first time ever joining any party. but the real question is, is there a realistic chance mainstream Canada is going to vote in a black female conservative. i like her a lot, but deep down i just feel a sizable portion are just going to go "hur dur i dont want a woman leader"

This is an email I received from Peter McKay today:

As Canadian communities face an increase in violent crimes, the Trudeau Liberals are reverting to their failed playbook of demonizing law-abiding firearms owners.
Canadians from large urban centers to remote and rural communities are fed up with Trudeau’s inaction and want to see meaningful steps taken to keep their families safe. Justin Trudeau will penalize law-abiding and responsible firearms owners as a cover for his own inaction. I will not.
I want to address Justin Trudeau’s recent announcement, which will have significant ramifications for Canada's law-abiding firearms community.
To be clear - I will undo the changes made by Order in Council and repeal Bill C-71.
Recently, Trudeau implemented provisions of Bill C-71, passed by the previous Liberal government with the support of the NDP. This bill included a firearm ban that includes many common firearms owned and safely used by Canadian hunters, sports shooters and collectors.
While the bill penalizes Canadians who already go to great lengths to follow the law, the new measures do nothing to address problems caused by those who possess guns illegally or who smuggle them across the border.
As you know, Canada has a licensing system that includes an intensive screening process, rigorous training, and daily background checks. Canadian firearms owners are diligent about following the rules because safety is hardwired into the culture of lawful firearms ownership in this country.

I have always stood with our lawful Canadian firearms community who along with all Canadians, share a commitment to public safety. As a senior minister in the cabinet of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, I proudly supported the repeal of the ineffective and expensive long-gun registry in 2011.
I will stand once again, this time as Prime Minister, to bring forward legislation to repeal Bill C-71 and replace it with a law that targets violent crime that is prevalent in rural communities and urban centres, illegal guns, organized crime and smugglers. This is what will make Canadians safer.
Canadians are searching for solutions, not Liberal talking points that make headlines.
So, here are just a few of the steps a MacKay Conservative government will take to tackle serious violent crime and make our streets safer for everybody:
• Immediately introduce measures to crack down on illegal firearms.
• Provide for mandatory minimum penalties for possession and end the revolving door for repeat offenders.
• Take the $600 million the Trudeau government proposes to spend on a wasteful gun buyback program and invest that money with frontline policing and Canada Border Services to go after the illegal guns that pose a real threat to Canadians.
• Take decisive action to combat organized crime, which operates in cities, and more recently rural communities across Canada.
• Toughen measures to deter and catch smuggling by seizing vehicles at the border where illegal guns are found.
I will always stand with the lawful firearms community in Canada and all Canadians to fight the real criminals who put our communities at risk.

Sincerely,
Hon. Peter MacKay

Re: the MacKay email. Where was he last week? Why did it take a week to figure out that this ban is BS? I fee like a true leader would’ve stood behind us immediately, as Dr Lewis did.

I’m not a single issue voter by any means, but firearms legislation and the freedom that it either offers or infringes upon depending on how it’s written is definitely one of the two issues that concern me the most.

I’m fairly certain that the above mentioned ceramic garden gnome (post 388) could take down our current PM on the economy, the issue that is my top priority.

As it stands right now, Lewis is getting my vote. I think she’s the only one of the candidates who can win an election, and I trust her to back the firearms community, at least on overturning this ban.

Perhaps for that reason she may pick up many more votes that would otherwise go to the liberals.

From a policy and character standpoint Dr. Lewis has my top vote. She's confident in her messaging even on controversial topics. I respect that.

From a strategic standpoint, I believe she'll capture more support in the GTA than O'Toole as immigrants may identify more closely with her while MSM may give her more air time as she could be our first elected female prime minister.

Face it, the CPC needs a serious rebranding. It would be difficult for the libs to continue the “Harper conservatives” line when the camera pans over to an educated black female who is also an immigrant. While I do not see a victory coming for the conservatives if it is indeed a snap fall election, it would certainly put them in a stronger position.

No membership for me.

All funds will be used to what I believe to create the maximum return on my investment. These funds will be placed into CPC ridings that are very close in winning an election with the Liberals. Gambling? Yes.

Want a current list? Email Sheldon Clare at the NFA.

And I am not even an NFA member.

I use the same tactic for Cancer donations. All funds go into a particular cancer research laboratory at the U. of A. A laboratory where those kids are working to into the wee hours of the morning 7 days a week.

Spend your money wisely to create the maximum return. And yes there is the element of risk. Keep it low.

Canada already had a woman PM...

Your cost benifit analysis is spot on, but the opertunity cost of a CPC membership is pretty low and gun owners really need the capacity to tip the scales between a candidate that will work for us and one who won't. We need to overwhelmingly support a pro gun candidate so the CPC can extrapolate how many votes are at stake.

Who has the best chance to get a majority? The conservatives need to leave their archaic ways in the past. Support the LGBTQ, dont bring up abortion and they need to buy into the climate bull#### even if its a face. We want ### married couples to be able to protect their marijuana plants with guns

LOL , you won the Internet today

I am not sure how to reach all people here, our vote will determine whether we get to live in a free country or continue to lose all our rights.
Peter MacKay, NO WAY! Another Scheer, that's all you will get.
Derek Sloan, too young, too much against abortions and LGBT community but pro guns.
O'Tool too far and extreme right, love it as a conservative, but it will be bad choice in terms of getting more people on board.
Leslyn, YES, pro gun, pro freedom, doesn't bash LGBT community, very smart and educated, and on top of all, she cannot be "pounded on" by media and fake news because she is black, no better candidate suited to lead our country.
So my vote, and my family's votes will go to Leslyn, I hope many people here realize that Leslyn is our only true hope.
She absolutely repeatedly promised a full and fair firearm laws revision, and to fix Turdo's dictatorship OIC as soon as she has the power to do so.
Leslyn ALL THE WAY (says a white guy who hates communism).

I agree entirely with your comment, lets hope she is fluent in French or kiss the Quebec vote goodbye.

This is what I am afraid of: All works in favor of Lewis except the abortion thing. "I am pro life myself but I support the rights of women to make their own choice and I'm not reopening the abortion debate" is all she needs to say to close that chapter and destroy Trudeau on all other fields. Instead she put 4 (yes "four") paragraphs that relate to abortion and things she would implement as PM. So, in short, those are the only 4 items she will be constantly asked about from left leaning media and they will run those and only those questions all over again. It will be same like with Scheer when they pounded him with questions on his views on ### marriage and parades. She doesn't need to lie or to change her views but she needs to realise it is almost impossible to win any more if you keep in some way reopening these divisive issues by choosing to put them in your campaign.

Exactly. It's a campaign-ender.
