Looking for a .22 for the girlfriend. Help me find 'the one'

Aloha friends.

To cut to the chase, I’m trying to find a .22 for the girlfriend and have a few criteria I’d like to stick to but am having issues finding options

In a perfect world I’d like to hover around the $400 region.
Bolt action.
Iron sights
Shorter barrel. 16” or 18” would be ideal.

If anyone owns anything that fits the bill and feels like sharing it would be greatly appreciated.
Comments about how replacing the girlfriend would be easier than finding this unicorn of a rifle are also encouraged.

The main thing would be She likes the Style of it and refine from there
Maybe she like the looks of a classic lever gun or she's be happy with a bolt but does she want wood or plastic.
Then we can help you pick the best option
 
If it was "wife", and you shared finances, then the obvious answer would be to buy yourself your dream .22, and let her use your old one. Textbook. ;)
 
Okay speaking from girl experience let her pick the rifle go to the store let her hold as many as she wants as soon as she gets a hard-on for it trust me you won't regret it. But in my personal opinion. just shooting at 22 the Ruger is your best option it's lighter and not as complicated also it comes in black if she doesn't like wood laugh out loud sorry that was a good pun

Agreed as well. If you purchase the B22 to start and in the future she/ you want a semi the A22 utilizes the same magazine which is a huge plus. I suppose the same can be said about the Savage Mark II and Mark III, but its getting hard to find a Mark III in decent condition (Haven't been made since the Lakefield-Mossberg days).
 
If your GF is of smaller stature, I suggest the CZ 455 Scout.
Around $400 from Ellwood, pretty good irons, light, 18" barrel, youth LOP.

My GF is 5' 3" and she loves the short stock because she can hold the gun closer and not get tired as fast.

Another thing to consider is if she likes how it looks. Girls seem to put more weight on how a gun looks compared to how it functions. My girl loves a nice wooden stock and clean, simple design - not the tacticool black, plastic and angular stocks which I like.
 
It's not a bolt gun, but I've been really liking my Marlin 795 lately. Light, not too big, accurate, has irons (you can get tech sights which are even better) last round hold open, 25rd mags available... And mine cost $150 off the EE!

Can't really argue with a savage either. My MKII is very accurate, barrel is longer than you want though.

OP what are your plans for this? Just target practice, or possibly small game hunting in the future? What sort of range?
 
Buying for a woman can be frustrating and difficult. If it were not for the covid19 shutdown that's now only beginning to ever so slowly end, it might well be easier to find a new gf who already has a rifle. If you can take this route, make sure she has good taste in rifles. It matters less if she's not discriminating about good taste in guys. ;)
