If I were to get a vintage sniper rifle I would pick a Swedish M41 6.5x55. I was pulling targets on the 1000 yard line at Ben Avery in an NRA Vintage Sniper Rifle match that was combined with our BPTR match. The match directors wife was shooting an M41 and I watched her put her first six out of ten into a sub moa group at 1000 yards. I do not know all of the rules of the american Vintage Sniper Matches, but the rifles have to conform very carefully to original specs including triggers, sighting equipment, etc.

Chris.

I have a genuine Brit #4T, less scope, with a repro scope on it. Shoots well.

And I have a Mossy Naggat repro made with a genuine PU scope. It shoots even better than the #4. This would be a cheap way to get into the sniper rifle shooting. It is sobering to see how they had to use a 3X or 4X scope.

Ten years ago at Bisley, the Trafalgar Meet, one of the traders had a genuine USMC '03 with its correct x8 Unertl scope and sling. On sale from a museum collection, it was completely documented from Parris Island to the last owner, who left it to be sold to the highest bidder on the day - every penny from the sale was to go to an unnamed charity.

We hung around until about 7.30 just to see what had happened - it went back to the USA for £17950 + plus 20% VAT, but the buyer could claim that VAT back.

Wow, the paperwork really adds a huge amount to the collectors value. Especially for something as rare as that rifle.

Years back, someone (i think it was Badgerdog?) was selling a Pattern 14 Mk1 (W) T and oh man....i would have sold my kidney for that
