Just noticed several Charles Daly shotguns at TENDA. Unbelievably priced to compete with the rest of Turks shotguns, I am looking into the Semi-Auto 601s in both the Tactical and full sized 28" models. No idea where these are made. Could also be a Turk, who knows as I can't find reviews. If this proves to be reliable, it might give the Turknelli a run for their money. Surprisingly, it also uses Benelli chokes and imported by North Sylva. Any early takers?

Take a look at the Churchill branded turks as well, usually a similar product.

If Im not mistaken there are only a small number of factories pumping out all these different brand guns, and many of the different brand names come from the same place. There are even American brands building their shotguns in Turkey with these same factories, Weatherby for one, maybe Winchester too?

Savage stevens weatherby mossberg cz and others are all importing turkish.
The charles dalys are now turkish built however the name is owned by chiappa so who knows about warrenty. Chiappa is about the worst in the business. Kbi used to import guns under the charles daly name but they went tits up. Word is its the same general manager thats been hired by chiappa to source these guns. Ill wait till theyve been around awhile before i risk my money however tempting it may be

I had an Akkar Churchill 206 Silver Hunter that was a regular duty skeet gun and was flawless, I currently have an Akkar Churchill semi(Altay 212 is the proper model), again has worked very well for me. However, the current crop of Charles Daly are not made by Akkar. They have also imported from ATA and Sarlimaz over time as well.

Who is “Charles Daly” anyway? Is it some universal trade name for a particular style of shotgun?

He was execellent at sourcing prussian made high quality guns back in the day. Im sure someone has more exact info but he was around late 1880s to believe 1920s. Several firms have since owned the name

Winchester SXP are Made in Turkey.

Like said owned by Chiappa. At less than $300, I think it will be ok till it breaks then maybe, a couple years to get it fixed. This is just my option but I don’t trust the qc or service. Charles Daly was an importer of very high quality shotguns, but in the about 140 years it has gone to many owners and vast range of quality. Your call, but for me a hard pass.

The Charles Daly name was associated with Miroku guns sold out of Japan for many years around 1985 -1995. Just a name of convenience I guess ...

So i fell to temptation with a site sponsors sale and picked up a 601 semi auto charles daly 20ga. Theres good and bad. However the good out weighs the bad.
First the gun came completely dry. Once coated with g96 it became a nice slick lil operating gun. It is nice and light and balances very well. Several skeet shooters mounted it and compared it favorfully to the rem 1100. I didnt feel it as much but it does shoulder nicely. I only shot 3 boxes of 7/8 oz loads thru it but it ran flawlessy. Easily spitting empties 5 to 6 feet to the right. The synthetic stock is firm and well shaped. The bad is the chokes are cheap knockoffs of lower quality. The fit of the gun is very high however the finish is on par with the price. The barreled action is or seems to be a form of parkerizing. Its not gritty or textured but its not smooth like a polished and blued barrel. It will mark up easily. The dual action bars function smoothly but show tooling marks. Inside the action bares tooling marks as well yet it functions smoothly. The inner edges of the action are kinda sharp. Didnt cut my finger but sliding shells into the tube i could feel the sharpness of the edges. The barrel is stamped made by merak in turkey. Unfortunately it has the chiappa dayton ohio import stamp. The cocking lever is very lengthy and the trigger gaurd is large enough for a gloved hand. The gas piston is metal not plastic like some other cheaper semi auto gas guns. Yes it has its flaws but for $300 it is a good value for someone looking for a cheap 20ga semi for a younger shooter or just a beat around hunting gun. I will buy quality chokes and fully test it. It will aee regular use on the skeet field. Overall i really like the gun. Its no beretta a400. Not even close however it is cheaper then the tax paid on a new a400

Charles Daly was a partner in the retail store Schoverling, Daly and Gales, of New York. They competed with the likes of Abercrombie and Fitch for the well heeled New York sporting clientele.

Charles Daly, in the late 1870's got the idea that they should create a private label brand for the store to compete with the guns they already sold....like Parker, Purdey and others. One of the very first private label products I can think of. Originally the guns were made in the small workshop of Heinrich Lindner in Suhl, Prussia. Dilly, I think you have seen on Double Gun the thread detailing the restoration of one of these Charles Daly guns from Heinrich Lindner's workshop. While they may be lowly boxlocks, they were built to a standard every bit as good as the Best guns from London.

Lindner's only son died in WWI so he had no one to take over his shop. After the enforced hiatus of the war, S,D & G found new sources for their guns, including Sauer & Sohn, Heym and other high quality German makers. Over the ensuing years the Daly name has been owned by many different entities and there have been even more different makers and country of origin for the brand. Germany, Belgium, England, Italy, Spain, Japan and more.

It's sad that the name has fallen so far. Among collectors of fine vintage guns, a Lindner Charles Daly is as good as it gets.

This is what they were back in the day:
