Read this on another forum. Two hunters on a quad were shot and wounded (both in surgery) by another hunter that mistaken them to be a moose. One of the shot hunters had an orange hat on.

I do not want to vent again, so lets all be careful out there, identify your target with your BINO's if at a distance you cannot tell with the naked eye before aquiring target with in your crosshairs of your scope.

Some guys should not be hunting.

Holey phuck. If you can get shot riding a quad wearing blaze orange I guess there's not much else you can do! I'd have shot back.

What kinda moron mistakes a quad with two huners as a wild animal?
Clue - Swamp Donkey's dont sport blaze orange hats.
Clue - Wheels instead of sticks.
These little things should be a clue as to the identity of the target.

One of the guys in our deer camp was mistaken for a moose in N Ont & shot thru the shoulder with a 7 mag while sitting on a log pile yelling
Then the guy walked up to him, turned & left :runaway:
Turned himself in to police the following day!

Yep some people should not be hunting!

I hope that both recover quickly and the asshat that shot them recieves a lifetime ban and a whole lot of prison time. Binoculars BEFORE crosshairs. Be safe guys. Our families depend on us.

There are a LOT of retatrds out there. I see them every day when I am at work. The worst offenders always seem to be the city guys that are camped out, garbage everywhere, everything shot up, quads down the middle of the road, camping on leases (with open fires!), and a general lack of respect for the people that live and work in the area.

Second worst offenders local guys always pointing their guns out the window or down the road.

There is no requirement to wear blaze orange in Alberta, if the shooter couldn't tell it was two guys on a quad blaze probably wouldn't have helped anyway. I agree that all hunters should have binos with them, I hate being scoped by other "hunters".

Hunters have been shot of snowmobiles while wearing full blaze orange. Is there any real proof that blaze saves lifes. It may very well cost lives by bring attention to a "movement in the bushes".

Jail time should be mandatory for asshattery like this At the VERY LEAST the hunters should be charged with poaching - even it if WAS game out there, the shooter obviously had no clue as to what ### or species it was and took the shot anyway. Jail the dumb ####s

... Another prime example of moron with gun. It's nothing to do with blaze orange. If someone is unable to identify his target and check the backstop before pulling the trigger, he should not handle a firearm. I hope he will never be allowed to hunt again. Idiots like this one turn anti hunters on to party mode.
I hope the quad riders will get well soon.

The original post stated
One of the shot hunters had an orange hat on.
I believe that is what the poster was refering to.

I live in Ontario and would not venture out into the bush during gun season without it. With blaze orange, there is no need to even "scope" or glass. Deer/moose/bear don't wear orange. At a distance, people or even a camo'd quad may not be obvious or heard. Safety first for me. I want to hunt again tomorrow.

Yup true that.

Me thinks there really truely is good "shroomz" in those mountains out west lol.
I know I know.. the fact of the matter is, two people got seriously injured here and that is not a laughing matter what so ever.

And for anyone to sit here and tell me that "people get shot wearing blaze orange" is the fault of wearing blaze orange should stop and think a minute.

I mean come on... how the #### can you mistake a big BRIGHT orange body for ANYTHING wild what so ever. Hell. Not even a tiger is that bright.

Fact of the matter is... eather the dude that pulled the trigger had mental issues, was wacked out on some form or drugs or alc or both or all three.

EDIT:
AND!! they were on quads.. last time I checked, wild life didn't have a motor ....heh, truely this guy was ####ed up on something or maybe he had a hate on for these guy's and wanted to kill them and played it off as a hunting accident, who knows. All sounds way the hell to fishy for my eye's eather way you look at it.

Let's not turn this into another "Should Blaze Orange be Manditory" fight.

The fact is they were on a freakin QUAD. How much of an asshat to you have to be to mistake 2 guys riding a quad for a moose. This sounds like a case of "spray and pray" and if he's not charged, I hope the shooter seriously reconsiders any hunting activities in the future.

I'll admit I don't like guys on quads irresponsibly ripping up the bush, but not enough to start shooting at them....
