What's better for moose: .270 or .308?

Either will dump a Moose on it's Fat Nose in short order.......I'd select the 308 of the two purely because it fits into a short action which is my preference in a rifle.

Plus everyone I know that shoots a 270 is Ghey:wave:

The one that fit me the best that was most comfortable to shoot well ...
i.e. - the one I had the most confidence in.

And P.S. ... I've taken moose with both ... with a well placed, well-constructed bullet: dead is dead.

Wee here is My two cents. I chose neither :p . All I have ever used to hunt moose is a .303 British. I just love to hunt with a hundred year old ,$150.00 gun that will drop any moose that I can see with the sights. Thats My choice.:D

Both will work, if this was a pure moose gun as stated before step back from the kiddies table and go 338 :).

What are the other uses of this gun.

Alright, here are the particulars. I own both guns and they are primarilly deer guns. I will not be buying a separate moose gun. The moose hunting would be in Ontario. The guns are:

1) Win M70 bolt action in .270 Win with a 1.5-6x scope. Hinged floor-plate. This gun consistently shoots 1.5" 100 yard groups with regular factory ammo.

2) Rem 760 pump-action in .308 Win with peep sights (will probably be fitted with a 1.5-?x variable scope). Detachable magazine. I don't know yet what type of accuracy this gun is capable of when scoped.

Now which one would you take moose hunting next year?

A Savage 99 in .308 using 180gr Kling-kor soft points will work fine inside 250 yards. Of course a M70 in .270 Win with 130gr Nosler Partitions is hard to beat for anything short of grizzlies, and I have a buddy who'd like to prove that it'll work fine on them too ;)

You're just jealous, Princess  Admit it, you were thinking about the pansies who like the ultra-gheyness factor that owning a .260 brings :p

given the rifle choices I would pack the 270...:D

as for ammo I would use 150 grain Supreme Elite Xp3 if I was forced to shoot factory ammo

My choice would be the 270 with 140 or 150 grn tsx or partitions or if ya don't load your own, a premium factory load like a bearclaw or partition.
I have never had to shoot one twice with my 270 and I have used x bullets and partitions out to about 300 yards both worked very well. Just my 2 cents!
