Type 81 LMG - Be Careful

Still see plenty of people shooting their Cz858 around here. No one gives a #### about the OIC in Alberta.

Why would the OIC apply anywhere outside of Toronto, Montreal and the Atlantic provinces? The Liberal regime as literally ZERO representation outside of those areas.

BTW I don't think it was proven by anyone that there were actually bent rifles, the whole thing seemed more like wive's tales being spread around.

There are probably thousands of T81s out there now, if there were rifles that were FUNCTIONALLY IMPAIRED by some deflection in the longitudinal axis, it was never proven or a statistically insignificant.

Needless to say I've got a T81, and an LMG on the way.

i still do not get how people can brag about owning a gun in those days ... i have friends who owns t81s ... i even shot some ...

The gas block on one of my type 81's was pressed on very crooked, putting the front sight post on a bad lean when they mated them up. It wouldnt pass my tolerances... But I'm not Chinese

Maybe if you squint a little, it'll look straight?

P.S. Yes, I know.

I owned a Type-81 that was not bent and had accuracy just around the SKS mark. I didn’t have to move the sights or adjust gas blocks.

An American made M10x shot immediately afterward yielded awful results. YMMV

Aye that was my experience as well with my folder.
Cool looking and fun to handle but at $1100 plus it didnt even shoot as well as my slightly tuned Chinese SKS.
It was frustratingly hard to shoot it accurately enough to just hit my 16" plate at 100m (I could hit the same plate with my sks all day out to 300m even with good consistency) And man when the gun/barrel got hot holy hell did it ever open up even more.....
They're cool looking. At 500 bucks I would have kept it but I couldn't justify keeping 1100 tied up in it for what it was.
Sold it and bought more crates of ammo for the SKS lol

And i remember paying my brand new vz58 1350 :ar15: and these guys paying 2k for a used chineese gun

Lots of Canadians will also pay 3k for a used up Valmet. Ive fondled a few over the years and they leave lots to be desired lol It all shows that novelty certainly has its worth.

SKS is nothing more than a neckbeards wet dream. Thats the last rifle I would want for a boogaloo.

Over in the milsurp forum, bearhunter seemed to think the SKS worked just fine in a boogaloo situation.

I've had the opportunity to use the SKS under stressful conditions. I never saw one go into slam fire mode. I never saw one jam either.

They are light, plenty powerful/accurate enough for their intended purpose and extremely easy to reload, even when you're distracted. Other than wiping down the bore/gas piston regularly with issued cleaning fluid, designed to dissolve the corrosive residues, maintenance was minimal until there was enough downtime for a thorough strip/clean.

The SKS will operate efficiently bone dry, for weeks, even after repeated use under horrible conditions.

I had my choice between several different, well proven designs, including the now coveted AK47/FN/FAL/CZ858 and later H&K G91s, even bolt actions etc.

All were proven and very effective rifles in the field and all, except for the AK, required a lot more attention to stay consistently reliable. I'm not saying the other platforms were problematic, they did the job at hand very well, as long as the operator was familiar with their function under varying conditions.

I don't find pistol grip rifles to be ergonomically correct. It's a personal preference only.

I also don't like a long magazine, that IMHO makes the rifle awkward/heavy and in some cases lead to jamming when being operated on their sides.

Also, a very big concern, weight of both ammunition and rifle. This is an extremely important consideration when resupply is a factor.

I could easily carry a full 100 round pouch vest of 7,62x39 and still be able to carry an extra canteen/food. Anyone that's operated under stressful circumstances knows full well how important and necessary ample water is, especially during the aftermath wind down.

Did I mention that I really like the SKS??

Auggie D.

There were no bent rifles...There are some that if you look down the rifle the barrel is slightly canted from the trunnion...they are not out of spec...this is not abnormal for an AKM style rifle...they are issued that way in their military configuration!!! Go and join any AK47 forum and you will see our friends south of the border have this same thing with imported AK47's from combloc countries. As far as TI, I don't know what kind of company they are and if they are not ethical then don't buy. As far as the Type 81, it's perfectly a Type 81 it just may not be for you..! That's all I have to say about that. The fact is these rifles will sell out every time and people will continue to whine about what they don't understand. I am not a TI shill, but the fact is if you know what a type 81 is there are no issues.

My theory is the critics can't afford one and have to make some sort of argument against owning them other than their wallet size.
