Varmint Hunting (WARNING GORE)

Next summer, I gotta bring my DSLR out there. If you fuggers will WAIT till I get the lens on the gopher before misting it, I can get images just like these ones. My camera only has a 6-shot rapid fire buffer not 8, so the window of opportunity will be shorter. But I do have a very nice 400mm lense (640mm effective) that would work very well, especially if I use a tripod
 
Seems like most people's reaction is 'whoa was that like a fiddy or something' - but in reality a small fast varmint cartridge with varmint bullets is far more destructive than a big game cartridge at more moderate pace with heavily constructed bullets.


Though a 378 weatherby DOES mess them up good, too :D

I do miss Alberta sometimes when I read comments like that. No pussy-footing there. Is it sick? Depends on how you see the world I guess. I am more disgusted with what domesticated animals endure before they are butchered.

gads...theres gajillions of dirt pigs out there. what does it matter how we react to offing a few hundred in a days shooting?

The fields we spent most of our time in, the ones that were absolutely infested - these were the same ones that were infested last year, too. We hit those fields HARD - there weren't nuthin left, but still, in the space of a year, they're back in full force.

What do you want people to do call them out of the holes and then euthanize them. So some people get excited about it, BFD its not people.

Them being blown to peices is just what happens and its cool looking.:cool:
Some gunnutz are interested in what a bullet does to game just the same way they are interested in what a bullet will do to ballistic gelatin. But to me that would get boring, shooting blocks of jello. Just the same a paper gets boring.
 
Ok...and I was brought up to be tolerant.
You have your opinion that we over-react to gophers being evicerated by a rifle cartridge thats smaller in dia. than a .22. Thats ok...this is Canada where freedom of speech is a right.
And we have our right to express excitement at the upcoming season where we (bluntly put) kill gophers. I guess seeing absolute results of a shot at a target 200 yrds away gives us a feeling of joy, excitement, glee...insert your term here. Its disapointing to see the target run down its hole when you are positive you laid on a killing shot. Maybe you did but the gopher runs away to die in its hole. Seeing the red spray is absolute...Theres no disputing the shot. If the gopher happens to explode, well...thats part of the hunt. If guys get off on that, thats up to them. I personally belong to the "Red Mist Club" and I like it. If that makes me a bad person in your eyes...its your opinion and you are entitled to it.

And yes, (wait for it :D).......... a .458 is basicly an african safari gun. Elephant, rhino, waterbuffalo etc.
