Why do people move on from Sightron scopes?

I don't know because I have never done a side by side comparison friend.
I have an NXS 12-42x56. I spot for others shooting at distance with this optic versus getting behind my Kowa 661.

Edit: How are you going to discern your good rifle is just ho-hum or a superior shooter without quality long range optics. Hint: you will never know.

I am fully aware that other scopes are being sold but many of them are out of my price range. I was asking about Sightron because I was seriously considering buying one. No other motivation than that.

I currently have a Vortex on one rifle and a Bushnell 4200 Elite on the other.

For what purpose are you needing a scope? Hunting? What kind? Target? What kind? Centerfire? Rimfire? The way your scope will be used should weigh far more heavily on wise choices than impressions on how many scopes of one brand or another are offered for sale on the EE over a given period of time. Until that is clarified, the thread becomes more about why someone likes one brand over another.
 
Sightron is great scope but sold mine because of warranty requiring bill of sale in Canada and if you lose it, no warranty. I had kind of bad experience with warranty (even with the paperwork). So I moved on

They realized that the Simmons 8-point does everything they need a scope to do

That's exactly what I'm looking for. Actual users impressions.

I am using my scopes on long range centerfire rifles.
 
i've got 2 siii 6-24, one is sfp the other ffp.
Its got slightly better glass vs my vx3 6.5-20 when doing the eyechart test at 200y.

imo one reason peple move on from sightron is lack of features. eg. limited choices in reticles, zero stops(on the older models)

Thanks that's the kind of input I am looking for.

I guess you could characterize my initial request like a "Consumers Reports" kind of thing.
 
I had a Sightron on my 22 for grouse and rabbits (S-TAC 3-16X42 - MOA 3 reticle).

Loved it for bench shooting but in low light conditions in the woods the reticle was way too fine for my old eyes.

Sold it and bought an Athlon with an Illuminated Reticle instead.
 
I had an slll 6x24 and a vxlll 6x24. I still have the leupold. I don’t like the screw lock turrets on the leupold they slip unless you tighten them pretty tight, and you lose your place. I found sometimes I would have to turn down the power on my sightron to see holes in a black target at 100 metres, the glass loses contrast at high mag. Also it was Ffp, and at 6 power where you want a bold reticle it disappears on any practical background
 
Bought one... sold it before mounting it... Tried one on a buddies rifle... nope.

Glass.... glass... glass....

All the great features in the world for any money means #### if you can't see your target.

When I said "impressions" I meant how many Sightron scopes you believed to have been offered for sale over the the last 6 months (as you said in the first post). Your impression was that an unusual number of Sightrons have been on the EE. Not all Sightrons that have been on the EE suit your purposes.

A good example of how the purpose of a scope can dictate what make and model of scope is suitable is rmsg's observation of what scope he's looking for.

This 36X fixed magnification scope is a great choice for benchrest with .22LR, especially if someone is looking for a scope that comes in well under $1000. But it's not suitable for many other purposes.

You've clarified that you're looking for a scope for long range shooting with a centerfire. Can readers presume you intend to use it primarily for target shooting?

There are many scopes that would be suitable for long range shooting with CF and some of them are Sightrons. Of course, not everyone likes Sightrons, just as not everyone, for example, likes Ford-built vehicles.
 
The elephant in the room is budget. There is wonderful glass out there, but it isn’t cheap. For a lot of us some of the options discussed in this thread are like me deciding where I would take a supermodel on a first date. It does make sense to spend $2-3K on a good scope rather than $800 on 3, considering you can only shoot 1 rifle at a time, but the family budget chokes on 1 single expense rather than 3 small ones.
