I am considering getting one of the new Savage Target Accutrigger actions for my LRPV and was curious if anyone had an idea of what I could get for the action currently on my rifle?

I know the Target actions run from $600+ so do you think asking $500 would be out of line for mine?

BTW mine is the 1.5lb and up Accutrigger. Less that 1000 rounds have been put through it.

Yes, $500 is out of line.

Think about it,,,,,,,,,,,why would someone pay that much for a Savage action, when they could buy a new Stevens for a bit more than 300, sell the stock and the barrel quickly for $150 and go from there?

Don't like the left port?

You know you can swap in a lighter trigger if you want.

I would suggest you sell the entire rifle and replace it with a target model or build up what you want with a Stevens.

There is precious little benefit to the single shot action unless you plan on hanging a mondo barrel.

I do like the left port but I was planning on using it for the possible winter f-class league that one of the local boys is looking to start up and I have gotten too used to my 2oz trigger on my 6BR that 1.5lbs seems like I'm pulling a tractor across the yard to take the shot....call me crazy if you want....but I see the harder trigger pull as one more variable to put my shot off course. I guess more practice wouldn't hurt as well but I got a chance to play with one of the new actions at the Powder Keg the other day and got a big woody for one. Mick McPhee shoots a 1lb trigger but his is so crisp that it seems a lot less than that. I don't know if the savage trigger can be worked like a Remington trigger to have it at a higher pull weight but seem less than it actually is

Unfortunately I am one that once my mind is set on a certain thing that it's hard to get it off track from that.

This LRPV is not something I wish to sell at the moment as it is very accurate out of the box but every advantage I can afford myself I will take.

Maybe I should just order a SSS trigger for it and call it done, I did however wish to keep the integrity of the savage and have an original Savage action and trigger on it. I also want to use it for Varmints in the spring and the Savage trigger is so easy to adjust with no messing around, Higher for Varmint...Lower for target use.

The SSS unit is very nice and drops in with one bolt. However, the pull is limited to around 12ozs which still feels heavy but is very crisp. A very nice varmint weight.

The Rifle Basix 2 trigger group replaces the entire accutrigger unit and you can get it down to around 6ozs and up to 2.5lbs. Sorry, but there is no Savage trigger close to the Jewels 2oz yet. I find 2oz to be a bit too light.

I have heard that some modify the rear spring on the Accutrigger to get it under 1lbs. I have never tried this so can't say for sure.

Why not just use the 6BR you already have for the F class league?

Personally, I wouldn't want a left port for shooting prone. Too much shifting around for loading off your elbows.

For what it costs, why not just use a Stevens action and you will have a serviceable rifle for peanuts?

"...my 2oz trigger..." If the league is following DCRA F-Class rules, you won't be allowed to use that trigger. 1.5 kilos(3lbs 5 oz) is minimum.
MSRP for the Savage FTR is $1142US and only comes in .308. Epp's wants $1178.85 for an F Class Target in 6.5-284 Norma. Of course, neither are conducive to easily rebarreling to .223.
I wouldn't count on finding just an action either.

sunray, you may want to review the rules again. There is no limit on trigger weight. It just has to be 'safe'...

Richard, I sure give Savage enough PR but no, I am neither sponsored or a stock holder. It is just such a wonderful platform which is now starting to change the way people think of factory action performance.

Today, my pac nor Stevens at 1000m kept all shots inside a 1/2 X 3/4 MOA rock (based on mil dot subtension) in very light/calm air. No more vertical flyers, just boring hits.

Not bad for a $200 action...

A local gun shop just happens to have 2 in stock. Both .223. One is Right bolt left port (same as my LRPV) and the other is right bolt right port. I was fondling it in the store the other day, which is probably why I got the damn idea in my head in the first place.
Both are the target actions as well........:runaway:

I said "WTF" to myself and I knew this wasn't right...

(iv) Any safe, mechanically-operated trigger may be employed on an 'F' Class rifle.

This IS from the DCRA website regarding full-bore rules for F-Class...

CyaN1de,

Just curious, Do you know the diameter of the barrel tennon on you .223 LRPV?

I know on the new Sav. LR target .308s and 6.5/284's the barrel tennon is 1.125", while on their other standard rifles it is 1.062". I don't know what they put on the .223 LRPV.

If you tell me what a Barrel Tennon is I can probably measure it for you :D as long as I don't have to pull the barrrel off to do so.

Yes, You have to pull the barrel off to measure it. It is the threaded portion of the barrel. I thought you might have it apart, since you were thinking of selling the action.

Thanks Juan for letting me know. I wish Sav. would have left these actions at 1.062. It thins the diameter of the action at the threads, and doesn't allow me much of a shoulder with a 1.250 barrel, if I don't use the nut.

Oh well can't have everything it seems.
