Gunsmith wanted to lengthen S+W Model 19 12.6 revolver

Hey, my father recently passed away and he left me a Model 19 with a 101mm barrel. I have a RPAL but no 12(6), obviously I need to get a smith to either lengthen the barrel or replace the barrel, open to options. Any recommendations as to a smith that can do the work and get the gun verified after would be appreciated. Thanks
 
Check out Numrich, they often have used barrels barrels over 105mm, that will fit your revolver. You will need to go through a broker to get it into Canada easily, unless you want to go through months of acquiring paperwork.

There are other options as well. A barrel can be profiled and threaded to fit your revolver by just about any gunsmith with a lathe. Depending on how fussy you are about the profile, will determine price.

There is also a Smith and Wesson repair center in Canada, that can supply/fit a new barrel for you. I don't remember the name of the place. Murray Carlton out of Victoria used to be the S&W repair center but he retired last year and another company picked it up.

Bits of Pieces, out of Delta, BC can either make up barrels or bring barrels in for you. Won't be cheap.

I'll look into them, has to be shipped either way so anywhere in Canada is basically the same as across the street. The RCMP verifier may be a bit more of a pain, that why I hopeing for somewhere that can be a one stop shop for me.
 
Any one that can do this will also be able to do the paper work on the gun.
You can lengthen the barrel, BUT if that is done it has to be drilled and a full length liner ( over 105mm) installed. And looks like crap.
Not a good option if you shot 357M, O.K. with 38 target loads as the forcing cone is weakened.
 
Many, many years ago I managed to machine and silver solder an extended 'crown' on a stainless version ... The 'joint' was completely hidden. It just looked like the crown was quite recessed. I took the gun to my local police and said it appeared it was registered with an incorrect barrel length and could they please measure it... sure enough they measured it at 108 mm and changed the registration accordingly. I wonder how many out there are like that...

Gunco does excellent work! He has done a few things for me, there are gunsmiths closer but i'd rather do the 8 hour drive to take it to him.

pretty sure he can handle it all then. I bought a luger that had been re-barreled by him. try giving him a call. it is hunting season so not sure if he is in at this time. he does take a week or two during the hunt and it is a one man show.

this is a revolver, you just screw the barrel off and put a longer one on, as far as i know.

Ditto. The 5" barrel what you need from Numrich!
 
There are no new model 19 barrels available from S&w, used is a possibility. Another option I ended up doing is have a 586 barrel installed it has a full under lug, Murray Charlton did mine but has retired. Expect to shell out $700+ to fit a 586 barrel plus blueing the old S&w bluing is impossible to match. the job may cost less if your barrel is not pinned mine was pinned. I don’t regret doing mine it is a very accurate well balanced revolver!

Mostly not that simple.

Barrel index may/will be different. The length of the barrel stub may/will need to be shortened or lengthened and that will change the index.

There could be other factors that can cause a problem.
