Over 12+ months of backorders on ammunition

Startling ( but not really... ) news from the US, distribution companies such as Vista are showing massive backlogs of ammo in excess of over 12 months. Could this be what we are going to start seeing soon?

This year I have been told prices are going up, things may get a little delayed, but 12 months is going to be troublesome! Primers are in short supply down south, now loaded ammunition is going to be going through a bit of a drought it seems.

Crazy days! ( insert small sales pitch ) If you need ammo let us know, at the exact moment we are in good supply for some things --> https://www.wolverinesupplies.com/#?sortValue=0

Below is a snip of what FOX news had said in an interview with the CEO of VISTA.

Vista Outdoors reports ammunition backlog of over $1B

'We currently have over a year's worth of orders for ammunition in excess of $1B,' CEO Chris Metz said.

"We currently have over a year's worth of orders for ammunition in excess of $1 billion," Metz said during the Nov. 5 call. “With demand far outstripping supply and inventory levels in the channel at all-time lows, we see strong demand continuing, and this metric informs our viewpoint of what a recovery or normalization could look like."

He added that he was providing the additional context “to convey an underlying strength and strong foundational element to our business.”

When will these ammunition manufacturers learn that they need to add production lines to their facilities?

When will these ammunition manufacturers learn that they need to add production lines to their facilities?

Many manufactures are cautious of the risk of investing in new production facilities. Before the 2016 election many companies expanded production, but after Trump won that election and the demand dropped, quite a few companies had taken substantial loss and had to lay off workers.

Hard to guestimate what Govt will be in power every 4 years. To gear up when the Dems are barking at the doors to gun control or when the Republicans are in office.

This. You only have to look at the AR15 production pre-2016 election, and the subsequent price collapse to see why companies would be hesitant to increase their production capabilities.

Why would they do that when they can create artificial shortages every few months and convince everyone to horde/jack up prices? If there is one thing ppl are good at, it's making money. If expanding a production line meant more profits, someone would have done it during 1 of the last 4000th "shortages" caused by "insert political event/shooting/robbery/law here".

Better to jack up prices with your current production line and sell it out thea take on overhead with a production line and hope the demand stays high and not a scare blip, or you're gonna be eating conveyer belt for lunch.

These guys are making money hand over fist.

There is 417 pages of ammo for sale on Gunbroker.....at 24 add by page..thats 10000 offerings..not all make senses money wise. But for the US shooters, they have options and ammo can be found.

For Canadian, the US is the major source, but some dealer get the best deal with European manufacturer such as Sellier & Bellot. There is no shortage of .22 LR - SK - Lapua - Eley seem plentiful.

For the reloader, powder seem to be avail - a close by dealer got all is order fulfilled and received. VV powder enter Canada by the boatload and are avail.

Some US ammo might be hard to come by, but in my neighbourhood, nobody suffer ammo shortage at this time. Quite the contrary, I was surprised how much ammo was avail ( palets ) at a club- store last week.

Even on CGN, a dealer is offering 9 mm ammo 1000 -$249.00.

Might be different in some part of the country..but in the East..look like we are good...at least for now.

When you don’t buy 9mm, 7.62x39, 5.56 in packs lower than 1000 and .22lr less than 5000, the shortage is just something you hear people complaining about on the internet. Best word of advice is that when it’s on sale, buy it. Ammo just keeps going up in price and even if you dont need it now, you’ll need it eventually. Of course this depends on your financial situation. Got extra coin? Just buy.

Yes, with Biden elected if everything transitions fairly peacefully the demand will normalize.

Using the words peaceful and fair in the same sentence along with Democrats (Demoncrats) and or a Liberal, is as equally stupid as it is impossible!.......:)

The election literally isnt over. I dont understand how many people dont understand this, pro trump or pro biden. AZ isnt even done counting the vote and its 49.4% to 49%. Many states are in the same boat, with recounts also being conducted in swing states. Also, if Biden does end up being elected legally, it will by no means stop the demands for ammo, likely the opposite will be true. Obama was the best gun salesman in US history after all.

Because people are stupid and like to be controlled. It has to be real because CTV or CNN said so, right!

The MSM is vile, evil and pathetic at best.

WAKE UP PEOPLE!........:(

Honestly, I anticipate deep discounts on ammo in 8-12mths time. Once the FUD settles and everyone puts their big boy pants on and goes back to normal post C19 it'll be business as usual.

Exactly investing millions without any assurance that the next government will change the landscape is not what business is into

I think part of the issue the goes hand in hand with the panic buying is also the amount of first time owners that have joined the ranks this year. Down south it's several million, and I imagine up here there's probably tens of thousands. It doesn't take much to pressure the supply chains with that much added demand.
