The wife and I were thinking of buying a handgun that my grandkids can begin to learn to shoot with. We already have a salvage rascal but last time at the range, my granddaughter (turning 7) wanted to shoot my Browning Buckmark but even though the hand grip is not large, it's definitely too large for a child's hands.

So, any suggestions on a small handle .22 pistol?

Maybe a Colt Woodsman or Norinco M-93

Smith and Wesson 422. There was one for sale in EE not long ago. Great gun. Light, small grip, well made, easy to strip and clean, low bore axis....so reduced muzzle flip. I have owned about 10 of them over the years, still have 2 , plus the upscale 2206 which is the all steel and alot heavier version. My daughter shot my 422 really well at 8 yrs old.

Tried the SP101 with my kids. Good size but the trigger was so heavy it made my hands ache after a while from using it.

Just switched my 10 years daughter over to a Colt Frontier Scout and New Frontier (taking up CAS). I find the Frontier Scout works better than the New Frontier; the female is the same width but the grips are thicker on the New Frontier.

Other great option would be a Ruger Bearcat. I like the idea of single actions for newbies as they can only fite it after they have cooked the hammer.

ISSC M22 is a bad choice. I just got rid of one cause it would only run CCI Velocitors. Those are $10 for 50 rounds. I bought a Glock 44 to replace it. The Glock is excellent. 14.8oz with an empty mag and it runs common ammo like CCI Blazer and Winchester Wildcat.

Have several handguns and by far the smallest grip of them all is the Browning 1911-22. I'm putting that up against some other small guns I have like the Beretta M71, Bersa Thunder 380, Webley MP, and Glock 48. Yea get the Browning 1911-22.

Cheers
Moe

Ruger Mark IV a quality firearm that eats almost anything. But if cheaper is what you want there are lots of smaller 1911 copies from GSG, Chiappa, sig, and browning. But there are other models from ruger and smith and wesson as well. Gotenda seems to have a lot of the 22lr pistols in stock for an idea of what's out there.

Go to Marstar and check out the Norinco Olympia 22LR. I wouldn't give a kid anything more expensive than $300. Marstar has a few videos on it.
