Rifles in .280 Remington?

Don't let 'em talk you out of a .280 Rem. I wanted one since I was a kid. One fateful day in 2018 preparation ($$$) and opportunity (a pre '64 model 70 fwt with a new, unfired stainless 1:9 Jury barrel) came together for me.

Nobody wants a .280 Rem on the EE - this beauty had been listed for over 6 months and was priced reasonably.

Just be patient - 280 rems have never been popular, especially since the 'new and improved' 280 AI has been getting all the hype. Even interest in them seems to have waned... It will be worth the wait!

I have a nice Ruger Mk2 stainless laminate in 280. Very accurate piece.

I had one of those, nice rifle... and the laminates usually came with stainless bottom metal rather than the cast aluminum BM.

I currently have three rifles in that M77 configuration, a 6.5 Rem Mag, 7.62X57 and .358/375... all with rechambered factory barrels. I carried them alot this fall and used them on a few head of big game to good effect.

Hoyt can the stainless floor plates be ordered? Or was that a one time thing?

The plain stainless is history, but they still make a matte stainless logoed floorplate, and special run polishes stainless floorplates, the only way Snapshots will order one is with the serial number of a rifle that was factory equipped with one... the problem is there is no descriptive part number to differentiate between the stainless matte logo unit and the polished stainless unit... I ran into that wall and did my best to work with Ruger parts department on correcting that parts issue, apparently to no avail.

Can you comment on 280 vs 280AI loaded to the same pressures, same barrel length, same powder/bullets? Apples to apples

You gain roughly 10% in case capacity. The formula tells us that will increase your velocity about 2.5% of that, so a bullet going 2900 fps will be going 2972 or so in the AI version. - dan

That’s going right for the jugular of the CGN fudd demographic!

This Fudd still has one. Not trading it for anything on a chassis any day soon. :)

700 action with a JC 1:8" bbl in a Brown Precision. Almost the perfect "all round" rifle. Shoots too!

I don't believe in "lucky" rifles, but if I did, this would be one. I got this little buck on the 1st day I ever carried it afield.
