Anyone have a Stalking rifle to flaunt?

re: doctor_meltdown .... "Any thoughts about the buttplate ? Is it better to just remove the hard pad (save it obviously) and install a decelerator/limbsaver, or just get a slip-on ?"

Have a look at the thin wearable recoil pads that are used in some shotgun shooting vests. I use one while shooting my big rifles, .400 Jefferey and such. Helps ease recoil without altering the gun or changing length of pull much. Browning and Beretta make them. Some come with adhesive strips that can attach inside your favourite shooting jacket, others fit in a pocket especially made for the purpose. it would be easy to modify a jacket/vest/ shirt to fit one of those pads. They work quite well despite being very thin.

One that has enough power to take anything in North America out to 200 yards, pleasant enough to shoot all day long, and swings and points like an extension of my arm, the “little” 9.3X57 Mauser.

The oversize bolt knob is particularly handy in cold weather.

Usually has a 3/4 inch sling on it, but took it off recently for these pictures.

Also have a very similar 8X57 that has more than 60 notches in the stock, not all mine. ;)

Ted

I had that rifle in my hand last night and man ho man it is nice! It feels so light and balanced, the stock is really trimmed and slander with an awesomely nice “open” pistol grip and a somewhat shallow stock but that make shouldering real “smooth”!!

Just putting a scope on this one now.

It's a recent model 70 in .308, sporting a VX-III 3.5-10.

Bought the rifle from a local CGN'er who dropped it off at my house here in south eastern BC.

I think I'll load her with a 150 grain Partition with a generous portion of RL15.

While most of my hunting is "still hunting" or "stalking",
occasionally I might have to shoot a couple of hundred yards across a cut block at a Mule deer or a Whitey.

It weighs in at about 7.5 pounds with the scope and sling.

We've had these on order from Stoeger for close to a year now. Hopefully, we see some soon:
1885 Courteney Stalking Rifle .303 British

Do you have the price figured out on those yet, Clay? It is a very nice rifle... would be all over that if I didn't already have a No.1-A in .303 Brit that shoots like a dream... I would be pretty tempted regardless. The bottom one is the No.1-S .45-70 I recently bought from Prophet River, but it is the fourth or fifth that I have owned... when it wears the 22" "C-barrel" rather than the 24" "D-barrel," it is a trim and handy package.

$2299.00. A few guys have orders in already.

You win the thread with that rifle! Nice.

That is a hunting rifle, not a range gun. Use a slip on for finding a load and use it as-is for hunting. You won't feel a thing whilst shooting at game.
Thanks! There are some amazing rifles in this thread.

I almost bought that rifle... and woukd have if I had not just found my albatross Ruger M77-RLS Mark II .358 Carbine... it belonged to member "Rob" ar one time... very nice rifle.

The .358 is not really a kicker, I think you will find that you can manage it just fine with the hard buttplate.

Thanks for the insight. I'll use a slip-on or jacket insert for practice and leave at as is for stalking. It did belong to Rob but I think it had changed hands at least twice when I got it in an EE ad that had a bunch of other rifles and no pics. The guys that keep posting that they don't even consider ads where you have to ask the seller for pics do end up missing out IMO.

I'm a big fan of walking with the shorter barreled CZ rifles. CZ 527 or 550 in 762x39 or if your doing the bear 30-06.
I agree that the cz527 carbine is a sweet walking around rifle, especially in the thick stuff. I got a doe with it late this season using prvi hunting ammo from tradeex.

I really like how light and pointable the carbine (and FS) is. I don't think the stock is too thick on the 527, though I do get what Hoytcannon means about the 550.

Got the 2.5-8x VX3i today and mounted in quick remove leupold rings on my Model 7 CDL 350 Rem Mag. Total weight comes in at 7lbs 11 oz. should make for a good carrying rifle that can drop anything out to 300 ish yards.

I need to get better pics of this one... 7x57, aka .275 Rigby. Almost, but not quite perfect.
