What do you think are, out of the box with no modifications, the top 5 most reliable non-restricted rifles available right now? How about the same list with modifications- any change to the list?

Maybe the X95 tops the list? Or Benelli’s MR-1? Or an SKS :d
Give some reasons for your choices if possible.

Uh, what? I’ve been on CGN for 16 years man...

I want to get something reliable, don’t want to mess around replacing a bunch of parts.

Thanks for the input though Mr. Tinfoil

Yeah he snuck in 16 years ago, posted 8300 entries, and traded reliably ----> Just to trick you into naming all those rifles the RCMP has never heard of.

FTIW I want to replace a CX4, which I bought for reliability, as my family was having a great time running drills until things went stupid with the new rules. I had also taken some friends and kids out to introduce them to shooting. I don’t want to piss around - pull the trigger and it goes bang. I know nothing is perfect, but I went through ++1000 rounds with no FTF with nothing more than regular cleaning.

I can’t say enough about the durability of the Tavor. I have the Tar 21 and it’s a workhorse. Only shot a x95 once but I liked it better and assume it’s just as durable. Takes a bit to get used to the bull pup configuration but they are very low maintenance.

Type 81SA's are hard to beat. The only reliability crutch ive observed is some and by some I mean like 1 in 8 proprietary mags sometimes fails to lock the bolt back on the last round. Its probably just the same faulty mag in the collection i have.

SKS is up there too. However on multiple occasions with different rifles ive observed them FTF with lead tip soft points.

My MR-1 was acceptably reliable. But nowhere near the extent of the above mentioned. My MR1 was ever so slightly picky with magazines and had FTF's with bullet gr higher then 62.

Buddy has a SU 16 Tactical. Surprisingly it has NEVER had a malfunction. But then again its only ever been fed brass cased 55gr FMJ...

I can also toss out there the MOST UNRELIABLE GUNS ive witnessed or owned...

Gen 1 TNW ASR in 9mm... occasional FTF, FREQUENT FTE ! even after a decent amount of tinkering, limited tech support, experimenting and over 1000rnd of factory ammo.

SVT 40... I dont care what the so called experts say. ive owned 3 of them over the years and have more tinkering and trigger time with them than most! They are finicky as heck to get running reasonably well. The most common failure I and many others experience is FTE. This is caused by either horribly corroded chambers, gas pistons cups and nozzles or a improperly tuned gas setting. But even then if you think uv corrected those issues other factors will sometimes come up that throws it all off again, weather and ammo. Light primer strikes is another lovely attribute to the SVT 40s lol its a highly novel and beautiful gun, but also over hyped with a heavy fanboi base lol

80% of Turkish made shotguns... With a few Western client collaborations like SXP's, PA-08s etc etc. and possibly some Turkish models like the Derya MK series and some Hatsuns as an exception... Most Turkish shotguns are in most aspects utter crap. Sticking to only the reliability side of things, most suffer from FTF and FTE enough so to drive a owner mad and then toss in the occasional light prime strike and the whole situation becomes borderline meme material.

i can vouch for..

FNAR Competition.
Tavor 7
SA M1A N.M.
Those 3 been perfects.

I would not buy again a
BLC-2
Stag

Ive also been looking to add a few more to the stable. Its unfortunate that this government had to ban a bunch of them :-(

The G36 is sweet...but man that is a lot of coin.

Funny about the mention of the TWN - I was at the LGS last week and looked at the WK180 and MCR. The MCR seemed nicer. I asked about JR Carbine and he said he refuses to bring them in in 9mm because they are so unreliable. He only brings in the TWN. But I've read about lots of issues in those too.

Really, the list from what I have read, I've seen nothing bad about the X95 and Tavor. The SL8 seems good, except for some complaints about ergonomics (may be an issue for smaller hands?). Kriss Vector seems complaint free as well - save for being big/heavy for a PCC. I never thought I'd say it, but maybe the Troy PAR is a good balance for cost/availability/reliability. I try to avoid Chinese products, but the T97 Gen 3 is also readily available. Not much info out there though.

I also considered a .22, but not many seem to be high quality. I 100% would have bought the Kriss to put under the Christmas tree had it been available. The other thing I noticed is that the shot timer often didn't work with a .22
