Small light weight 22 rifle

It is getting a lot harder to find cheap but any of the Rem Nylon 66 series would fit the bill. I have a 10C (Nylon 66 with a detachable 10 round mag). Awesome hiking, small game rifle.

I am not discounting the little badger.
I am just seeing what else others have used.
I like the idea of a take down but the time taken to get it up and running might be too long.

I do have a Norinco copy of the SA-22.

Still hunting for a little badger to see how I like it.

For the Savage TD, even with the receiver in one hand and the barrel in the other and you push them together, you still have to turn the locking screw 4 complete turns to lock, before you can fire it.
So that could take up some valuable time. Same as the Henry Survival, you have to twist the locking nut tight before firing.
Ruger TD in the same scenario... insert barrel, quarter turn twist to lock, charge and fire. Under 5 sec. Only draw back is the weight. It is a bit heavier.
Still not a quick as a non-TD rifle, but it does fit into a pack a lot better.

While the Rascal is tiny I don't have a problem shooting it accurately, although I probably look like a dog humping a football:d
It rides on my skidoo all winter while trapping and also in case of seeing ptarmigans or grouse. It keeps me fed!

Hunt around a bit and see if you can find a Husqvarna single shot rifle.

Bought mine a few years back from TradeEx. Ninety-nine Canadian dollars, and a treat to carry and to shoot. Lovely slim elegant thing she is. Like a walk in the woods with a Vickie's Secret model.

Kinda. :)

Absolutely love my Husky singles.

But for a Hiking/Bush gun, think I'd want to stick with a SA or at least a repeater bolt.

I just sold a Mossberg 152k which we used as a hiking carry.... perfect for what you are looking for though heavier than the little synthetics for sure. Pick your sling carefully if that's how you plan to carry. Some of these modern slings suck....I referring to those that feel spring loaded.

Just to put a bug in the OP's ear...cuz we are talking about a rifle for hiking/small game in the woods.

Have ya thought maybe of a 'PC Carbine' ?

.22 are good...but a PCC...well.

Might be a little more weight but way more stopping power!

Ruger .22TD... . @4.6 lb.
Ruger 9mm PCC @6.8 lb.

a home job but under 2 pounds, semi auto, 7+1, 27" oal and 12.25" lop
it has 7 rounds in the mag in the pic. (none in the chamber as its my kitchen lol but still under 2 pounds fully loaded)
it still need a rear sight, but im getting good using it like a shotgun lol

What gun is that? I don't recognize the action. One lb more than a Pack Rifle and it's semi-auto? Sounds awesome!

All 22s I have experience with have been mentioned already.

#1. I know you said no Little Badger, but I figure I should share my experience because I have one and it is darn good. Trigger is good. Accuracy is good. Mine has about 30 grouse kills so far with CCI Quiets. I carry it in my backpack all hunting season.

#2. My brother uses a Pack-Rifle bought from Prophet River. A one pound gun is pretty cool. Trigger is awful. Accuracy is acceptable.

#3. My brother also has a Savage Rascal for his daughters to shoot. It's a great little gun. Trigger is excellent. Accuracy is great. The stock is just too small. I kinda wish I had bought one instead of my Little Badger, but ....

#4. I just bought a Browning BL-22, but I haven't shot it yet. I really considered the Micro Midas, but decided to stick with a full size. I'm excited to take it on walks in the bush. It's such a beautiful gun.

#5. I used to own a Ruger 10/22. Many people like them. They are good guns. I never enjoyed mine. Just wasn't in to it.

Having owned several of the rifles mentioned and shot others, I'd seriously consider a Browning SA-22 if I was you (think you said you had the Norinco). I like the Badger, a couple buddies have them and they're very functional if you get one with no QC issues. Old Cooey 39 is a fine rifle, but you could also look for a CIL 111. Kinda clunky to load, but fine handling, despite its low price (it's an Anschutz-made Flobert action).

You gotta post a lot more details

I have CZ 455 scout which is very compact and accurate. You always have the option of putting a regular length of pull stock on it if you find the stock length to short, also you can convert it to 17hmr or 22wrm with the CZ mini sets if required. The same options also exist for the CZ 457 scout.

LOL.

Functional if you get one that works. What a compliment.
