Hi folks,

Purchased a Leupold VX-3i 4.5-14x40 for my Tikka T3X in .270 and I’m all over the map trying to decide on rings for it. From what I’ve read, a couple popular choices are the Sako Optilocks, as well as the DNZ style. Am I overlooking some better options?

I can’t seem to find either of the above mentioned rings in stock in Canada. Any suggestions?

I have used Talley rings on my 270 and they work well. See photo of close up. Used a Swarovski on the 270 but on my 243 I used a Leupold VX6HD. Just do not have a photo. Worth considering as they are lightweight and solid.

I think any high quality ring that provides the appropriate height above the bore so your eye is aligned with the center of the scope, and allows the correct eye relief will work. More importantly is the question of the style of ring you need. Do you want to use this scope on more than one rifle? If so you want some sort of quick detachable ring. Will a standard ring give you the eye relief you need? If not you'll need some sort of extension ring, or perhaps consider the addition of a pic rail base. If the rifle is to be used for long range shooting, a sloped base might be in order. I think SAKO should have a pretty good idea of how to mount scopes on their own rifles, and there is a pretty good selection of mounts on the Tikka website. My preference would be a ring mount, if it works in your application, just because a ring mount has the least number of parts, and the fewer the parts, the less likelihood there is of something coming loose.

I have quite a few Tikka rifles and have suffered the same decisions to get the scope mounted as cleanly and easily as possible. I don't swap scopes around too much on rifles so the use of a rail is less beneficial to me. I have Warne direct mount rings on my last two rifles and I like them a lot, they go directly onto the factory dovetail on the rifle, and the front ring has a recoil pin that goes into the hole in the front of the receiver to stop any movement.

Would you happen to have a part number?

My preference is also for a ring mount. Optilocks have me interested, but like the others, I can’t seem to find any in stock in Canada....

If your scope is 30mm you can’t beat sports match rings. Clamp directly to the rail and engages with pins. Real light too.

Precision optics is showing stock for plenty variations of the one piece optilock ring-mounts in both blued and stainless. I quite like mine. IMO the only next step up is the spuhr aesthetic mount to the dovetail, at double the price

My preference for Tikka are the MaSi one-piece QD rings/mount. Made and sold in Finland using high quality materials and stringent standards. I highly recommend them. They hold zero and are virtually indestructible.
