Very nice. It doesn't look like it blew a super big hole in the deer either like some wood stocked single shot Ruger POS rifles do.

Good stalking rifle.

Head/neck shot, entered the face and out the neck.

It was about 120yds through dense brush, so had to thread the needle or keep the freezer empty

If a slender, lightweight European styled rifle in a medium caliber qualifies as a stocking rifle, this one is fairly close:

Actually, it is a sported G98 probably from the '20s. Interesting thing about it is that on the bottom of the barrel is stamped "Krieghoff".

Krieghoff trade gun it would seem. I had a 30-03 on a 500 series/1898 Mauser with nearly identical barrel profile, no name, and enough Saskatchewan dirt and seeds in the action to grow a gravel road. The barrel was .035 out of headspace and the bore was equally chewy so it went to the breaker's, waiting to be resurrected as a 7x57 or something like that.

This Krieghoff sporter is 8x57. It must have been shooting high. Bubba kept filing down the fixed standing leaf, and still couldn't get it zeroed. I made a higher front sight, and filed it until it was zeroed with the folding leaf. Shoots quite decently at 100. Too bad bubba didn't realize that raising the front sight would be more effective than filing away the rear sight.

Well, since we're talking stalking with entry level rifles, how about a nice small ring GECO Mauser in 8X57? This little old lady has really been through the rough stuff: dents and stains all over her, but the bore is like new, bright with sharp rifling.

It had a Pecar 4X in a side mount when I got it years ago. Gave it to a good friend of mine who is thirty some years my junior. The same fellow whom I posted about getting his first moose last Fall. It's a nice mate to the 9.3X62 he used on the moose.

Blued steel and light walnut, two leaf rear sight, caterpillar front, machined sling swivels, and a very unique butt treatment. Weighs just a tad under seven pounds.

Wonder what stalking stories she could tell?
