Hey
So the case head separated in my resizing die.
Its 7 REM.
Any idea how to get that out?

ThanksView attachment 450000
It's out.
I screwed a tap in there, locked it in the vice and gave it a good whack with a 28 ounce framing hammer. A big hammer works best.
It popped right out. I chose this method first,as it seemed to be the fastest and easiest way.
Thanks for all the suggestions.View attachment 450115

I've deeply scored into the brass with a slim pointy file. Do this in two places closely spaced as deep as you feel comfortable going. Careful not to go all the way through or touch the die anywhere. Then you can hopefully pry up enough of the brass that you can get a needle nose plier to grab onto it. Id you can pull that strip out then the brass can "collapse" into the gap and you can pull the rest of the case out.

What about heating the brass with a blowtorch?
Thinking maybe the brass will heat up,fairly fast and make it more pliable?

I would go with Post #4 - buy or make a spit case extractor - remove everything from the die body - the extractor should be able to grab the case mouth and be tapped out? Assuming that you can not see that case's mouth from the top end of your die. Major hazard, of course, is risk of putting a gouge or scratch into the polished interior of that die.

Heat will expand the parts and possibly the brass more than the die. I can't remember offhand which expands fastest.
A better idea might be to try getting it as cold as possible. If you have a tap the right size to fit the case and not contact the die it might be worth a try. Otherwise look up stuck case extractor. Probably a few on YouTube etc.

Another thing to try would be freezing the die,say overnight, than next day heating the die up from the outside with the biggest torch you have, the die will expand before the brass gets hot and the brass should fall out.

Or,get some dry ice and somehow cool of the brass and hopefully it will shrink enough to come out.

Shell extractor is the way to go. Cheap - usually 11-$15.
I do not have one for your caliber - only .308 and .223
Have you tried to force in another case in . Clean the inside of the stuck case with alcool, do the same to a full case.
Put CA glue on the upper body of the case to be inserted in your stuck case.
Let cure and try to pull the case out.

It should work.

First, this is not easy to do, in my experience.

Use a brush and brake cleaner to clean all the oil and residue from the inside of the stuck case. Then rough up the brass case insides.

Stick a disposable ear plug into the neck of the case.

Fill the case with epoxy.

Soak the die in real good penetrating oil for a day or 2. I use Kroil.

Install th die in the press. Pound the case out with steel bolt.

Tap and Die. I know very dangerous if you get too carried away. It is how I removed a similarly damage case from a pistol.

Gently run the tap in. Then pull. Very easy.

Worst case you have to get a new die.

A proper sized lag screw with a lrg washer screwed into the die deep enough to bite into the brass but not the die body.Do this with the die already screwed into the press first.Use a bar to pry the bolt down should pop right out.

I used Ganderite's method to remove a stuck case from a SMLE and it worked well. It may be more difficult in a sizing die as the case was compressed into the die more than a fired case into the chamber I suspect.

I like the Lag bolt idea,sounds easy..haha
If that dont work then I'll try the epoxy.

Last time I'm using one shot, just to save a bit of time.
This is the second time I've had issues with it.
And I spray them generously.

Usually if the case won't extract, the rim rips off. With the head separating like that, I wonder if the case didn't already have an incipient case separation? You might want to check your brass.

That's not a lube issue, looks like your brass had a defect of some sort, too many uses maybe.

Do the cleaning method that Ganderite said before you try the leg bolt, that way if it doesn't work you are all ready for the epoxy. Might be hard to clean it up after the leg both scars it up.
