For as long as I can remember as a kid going to camp with my father, the riffle that always caught my eye , was the Parker hail 1200 models. That beautiful square forend , beautiful wood grain , Mauzer action ... I’ve decided to start a collection of them .. It will be a slow process but I’d like to eventually have all calibers offered .

I currently have A pristine 308 , 270 win and a 7 mm in nice shape and a 300 win used but nice condition..

My question for those who may know , what list or where can I find a reliable list of all a available calibers in that model ? Thanks in advance for Anny help ... Cheers

To get them new in boxes would be a dream , although my 308 is about as close as it gets to that ..I’m new to the sight not sure how to post pics ..

Cheers

They used to make them on different Mauser actions. Some were Spanish, some were Belgium, some were surplus and (I think) that even some Swedish ones were in the mix as well.

I do not know about the 1200 for sure, but I have two Parker Hale in 308 Norma Mag - the 22" barrelled one is marked "Super Safari" on left side of receiver - no model name on the 24" barrel one.

Only thing I didn't like about the 2 I had was a 308 in a long action. One shot half descent the other was real good shooter 16" at a 1000yds with factory ammo.

I hunted with a 1200C in 7mm RM for a while and I still take it out every now and then. Accurate rifle but the barrel heats up after 3 shots and it won't group well until it cools again.

Great rifles. I’ve had a couple 1200tx’s. Both shot very well.
OP if you PM me your email addy I can send you photos of the relevant pages from the ‘76 Parker Hale catalog.
Unfortunately my scanner is packed away for a bit due to some restoration work so you’ll have to make due with cell pics but the information your looking for is there.

There was also a "Safari Deluxe" model, don't know what years or duration they were offered but my old man bought one new in 1964.

Built primarily on Spanish Santa Barbra 98 Mauser actions, the PH Super 1200 was available in .22-250, .243, 6mm Rem, .25-06, .270. .308, and.30/06. The 1200 M came in 7mm Mag, and .300 Win. In addition to the Super, which I think later became the Safari, the 1200 also came in P (Presentation) and V (Varmint) configurations without iron sights. The P model had an engraved action, while the V was a heavy barrel rifle, glass bedded and free floated Then a bit later a DBM version was added to the roster, called the 1200C or the Super Clip. A light weight variation was called the M-1100 came in 9 chamberings as well. A less elegant, plain jane version was called the Midland or the PH 1000, which came in .243, .270, .30/06 and .308. There was a PH 1300 C Scout which was a carbine length variation.

In addition to the 1200 and 1000 models, PH also produced another Mauser based rifle called the M-81 which was available in Classic, Classic African (.375 H&H & 9.3X62) and a .308 Sniper variation. Target rifles were designated M-86 AND 87, came with a target stock, and aperture front and rear sights. The M-86 was a .308 and the M-87 came in .243, 6.5X55, .308, .30/06, and .300 Winchester.

PH offered what the Blue Book referred to, but don't describe, as a hybrid action known as the M-2100 Midland, available in 11 chamberings from .22-250 to .300 Winchester, the magnums, both 7mm and .300 Winchester had their own designation, the M-2100 Magnum which came with 24" barrels rather than 22". The PH 2600 Midland Special came in .243, .270, .308, and .30/06. A light weight version was called the Midland 2700 Lightweight.

I've also seen reference to a PH Hussar that was built on a Brno ZG47 action, but was likely only for the European market.

The only PH in my safe is a fairly beat up Safari Deluxe chamber for 375H&H Mag. Belongs to my cousin, don’t know if he even remembers it’s here.

PH also used some ex-military actions, identifiable by the charger loading thumb cutout. Had one in the shop which had been set up in .222. Very interesting conversion.
There were several variations of the 98 Mauser used. Ex-military; FN style commercial with full C inner collar; commercial with two "U"s for the inner collar, and no inner collar whatsoever. Concept of safety breeching abandoned completely.
Worked on quite a number of PHs. Found that barrel thread dimensions were quite variable - far more so than observed on standard military actions. Barrels gave the impression of being quite hard. In the event of failure, instead of bulging, they tended to fracture. Most dramatic example was a .30-06 fired with snow in the muzzle, The barrel shattered into 7 pieces. The rifle was gone from the receiver ring forward.

If memory serves me correct the PH 1200 action was the basis
or the C3 7.62 NATO CDN sniper rifle in late 70s
I used one on a Reserve sniper course taught by the great riflemen
WO Larry Fish around 1976/77
we were getting solid hits at 800 yards no problem
if you knew your windage
use US M118 match ball ammo I think ?
and a Kahles 6 x scope

Would like to get a Parker Hale 1858 reproduction. Very good quality.
There's a Parker Hale Whitworth on the EE currently too if anyone is interested in doing some long range muzzleloader shooting.
