I think the tap drill size for M16x1mm is like 15.6mm. 5/8-24 bored clean may not leave enough material for 100% threads...
I read it was M16x1mm, so I'm going with that, I don't expect re-tapping 5/8 to work. But almost as many times, I've seen people say to re-thread a 5/8 unit, so I'm going to attempt and document the process. I do not expect it to work, but people need proof.
True North Arms offers a re-thread service too. I don't know if they're set up for 16mm threads, but I think a Krink style brake would be super cool.

My muzzle device is an extra that I had from a Hatsan Optima 12Ga. I just had to press it onto the T81 thread protector, the fit was about .008" interference fit. Seems very sturdy, I ran 200+ through it and it was great - all about the looks though, no function advantage.
The thread is M16 x 1 right hand. In theory, you could take a 30 cal Muzzle device that is 5/8 x 24 and tap it out to M16 x 1....there should be enough meat left for decent threads.
Completely unrelated but have these been refinished? These look a mile better than the standard beechwood color.
Do these actually mitigate recoil? I've never tried a brake without holes or gills.
Nope, but they help to control muzzle jump without making the gun ridiculously loud.

Slant breaks cause accuracy issues in my experience , only useful in full auto anyway .. you should make a AK74 style or just a birdcage type FH.

Nope they will actually make the recoil feel worse in semi auto .. only useful for keeping muzzle rise down on a full auto AKM . will be useless on this rifle .. i dont think a slant break has ever been on a LMG in service ..
It will do fine at reducing muzzle jump on semi auto as well. Felt recoil will only be worse if the brake over compensates. I had a Dlask slant brake on a VZ 58 that did this, but also a Tapco and Corwin Arms slant brake that didnt and were quite pleasant to shoot.
Thanks for the info! Wish they came up with a 1 or two port gill brake (like the stock one on the XCR) as an option.

They are also super light and short, not much difference to front end
They are not a brake at all but a compensator, used for helping maintain target while in full auto. Beside looking cool they'll serve no purpose while plinking at the range.
I'll be getting one anyway for the iconic AK look, in for a penny in for a pound as they say.
