Ruger American Ranch - 5.56 AR

I think its great to have options!
However, even with the pluses pointed out with the Savage ^^ I still would have bought my RAR even with the "lesser stock" and the fact that I can't "seat bullets further out".....whatever that means.

Also, IMO the Savage is fuglier.....

The rifle and chassis combo from IRG works out to about $1500 Canadian.
At that price point; It competes directly with the Maple Ridge Armoury Renegade rifles.

You can take your pick of which is the better tacticool .223 for your needs.

That’s the trick. I didn’t buy the RAR to drive tacks at 500 yards. I bought it to have fun and part of having fun is liking how the rifle looks.

I like the look of the RAR and other than maybe a paint job I don’t plan on changing the stock much.

I’ve got lots of practical guns. This is an impractical gun. For me, at least.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder for sure. The stock on the Ruger is worst than what you would find on most cheap 22's. The ones I looked at and I looked at a few were kind of warped where the barrel meets the stock. Definitely a very budget stock. Also the colour of it is kind of unfortunate. Reminds me way back when I changed diapers...

I agree...."beauty is in the eye of the beholder" but to qualify the RAR stock as worst than most cheap .22's is stretching it.

Sure, polymer stocks may "warp" and make contact to one side of the barrel but a little bit of sanding with 400grit will take care of that. I must have been one of the lucky ones as mine was straight and free-floated perfectly.

Yes, the colour of the stock is odd (for me) because all of my rifles are either wood or black but I'm liking it now. It's a nice contract with the black accessories.

Everyone has the reasons for their purchases, re-purposing my AR mags in a bolt-gun was mine and the RAR ticked off just about every box.

Well out of curiosity I did the "slip the paper between barrel and stock" test, no problem. Next will be to get my friend with a digital trigger gauge to see the pull weight before I change to pen spring.

I clicked on the wrong rifle on the IRG page. Ended up w a rotary mag model. The release for the magazine was broken/snapped off so that compounded my problem as I originally wanted to use my AR mags and now I had a rifle I could not shoot at all.....

Went the MDT route and really pleased with the vendor and their products. 10/10 experiance.

Just finished modifying the bolt handle so I snapped a pic. Handle is a APA from an rifle that I no longer own.

No grouping pics as I am using the ACOG as shown and I never really exceded 300m with it. Rings all my gongs so very pleased with the rifle over all.

Brake is a "Little B@stard" from APA as well.

Does it feed properly? I contacted MDT and they told me their AICS magazine wouldn't feed properly with this rifle in any of their chassis. I wanted to drop mine in an Oryx.

I bought 5 of their mags.

All are good quality and work perfect.

Have +- 1000 rounds downrange. 55, 62, 68grs. Factory(s) and handloads.

Can't say again how pleased I am with this little rifle!!

Anyone else reporting failures to ignite primer on 5.56 XM855 or XM193 ammo? I have not had time to take mine to the range yet and I'm just wondering should I be stocking the .223 ammo instead? Thanks gun nutz...

MDT!

NoDanger.....nice set up! All it needs is a Glades Amory bolt/handle and you're done.
Are all your 3-digit combo lock #'s 007?:)

The balance is awesome, accuracy was exactly what I would have expected given the quality of MDT's products. The weight might be a factor for you if you like the factory stock. Using the bathroom scale, as pictured, 10 pounds.
