Hi guys and gals,

I am looking into a huglu hammer gun (201hrz), with 30" barrels, to replace my other shotguns. Any of you have experience with these? Do they handle large round counts?

Thank you

Luck of the draw really, Iv'e seen some huge O/Us start to separate wear the mono bloc meets the barrels after a few hundred rounds, also seen some with several thousand rounds through them.
What are you considering large round counts? might be worth spending the extra $$$$ for a more common and better built item from one of the major brands, although a hammer gun might be hard to come by if that's what you have your heart set on, Pedersoli is the only other currently available that i can think of.

Give Clay a call at Prophet River. Ask for his opinion. Huglu's are relatively inexpensive. Life's short, if you want one, buy one and have fun.

i'd be willing to try a Huglu, even though iv'e seen issues, but iv'e seen issues with browning and beretta as well, and since we cant seem to get Baikals anymore. But why do most of them have 26" barrels? Barrels that short have been out of style for quite some time now, 28" barrels on a .410 o/u is tempting at that sub 1k price point though.

The barrels on my CZ/Huglu and my Pedersoli were both 28".

I have the Huglu 410/26 inch sxs, it's quite nicely balanced but I'd had gotten 28 if they were available!

I have one , Huglu hammer Classic with 30” barrels. It’s actually very nice , especially for the price , I’m quite happy with mine. I got it from Prophet River about a month ago and have been out a few times with it rabbit hunting and it’s been awesome. I recently bought myself an electric clay thrower too so I’ll be giving the Huglu a lot more trigger time once this minus40 weather buggers off.

Put 150 shells through my new Huglu hammer Classic on clays this past Saturday morning. Worked a treat , I used improved modified and full choke , the steel butt plate lets you know it’s there after a 100 rounds though when just wearing a sweater. Maybe a padded shoulder or a slip on recoil reducer would be the way to go if you plan on shooting long sessions with one of these.

Or remove the buttplate and have a decent recoil pad properly installed?l

I like 28" barrels on a SxS, my 16 gauge has 29" barrels and my 28 gauge has 27" barrels, but only because I bought them used, if I was to order them, they would both have 28" barrels. My Huglu 20 gauge has 26" barrels, because none of the 20 gauges in stock had 28" barrels. All three have solid wood butt stocks, so two rounds of skeet is enough with the 16, with field loads.
