Biggest beef on Rugers is the mounting system.
Remember the round top m77’s that were drilled and tapped for Remington bases? Too bad that didn’t stick.

One of the things I love about the M77 is the integral ring system.

You might get something that looks better, but I doubt you could find something that works better.

Yeah, but I'm superficial that way... ;)

As a teenager, I hung out with a couple girls in a group, Kelly was a terrific girl, but Amy was a serious looker, I was young and not looking to get married... went out with Amy.

I have never witnessed such nice fiddleback on a Remington Model 700, Eagleye. What is the rifle chambered for, and what year was it manufactured?

I bought 2 - 700 Classics in 8x57 in 2005. Both had been previously fired, and this stock was on one. I sold off one of my 8x57s here, and kept the other.
The 8x57 was released in 2004. I have since transferred the stock to my 700 Classic in 7x57. That fiddleback runs right to the forend tip, and is even visible
in the checkering. How such a beautiful piece of walnut did not end up in the custom shop, I have no idea, but will not complain. :) Dave.

I am also a Blued steel and nice wood character. While I see the virtue in having at least one
stainless/synthetic rifle, I lean heavily to the "Classic" offerings, sans plastic stocks.
Hit the lottery on the one below. Dave.

Hard to believe wood that nice came out of the factory... that's a $1500 stock all day long...

I went out with an "Amy" but **saw** a "Kelly" on weekday evenings. :)

Looks like another set of Weaver R&B will swing into action. Should try to find and old steel Weaver target scope to complete the ensemble.

Yup, those Weaver rings and a Weaver 4X would be perfect for that "Kelly" rifle.

I'm thankful to all you old Fudds for missing that walnut 700 BDL Varmint in 222 on the EE today. :)

I traded for that exact same rifle in about 1980 at my local gun shop. I had borrowed a friend's 222 for some groundhog hunting a couple seasons before and was really impressed. My first trip to the range with that BDL and a box of Remington CL left me gobsmacked. My very first group was just about half an inch. I had never owned a gun that shot like that. After a few years I traded it for a 338 for a moose trip my Dad and I were planning, but I always regretted letting that beautiful 700 BDL in 222 go. Congratulations on acquiring a classic, that'll likely prove to be a tack driver.

I probably bought those Weaver rings to mount my scope as well. They were cheap, reliable and did the job. That's what I was looking for.
