I got this gun for this long weekend project. I guess nothing else better to do.
I took a couple shots first before working on it just to make the gun is in working conditions.
it's functioning perfectly. The bore looks pretty accurate. There are a lot of scratches and dents on the stock.



22 LR single shot. Excellent gun for the price and gives you lots of fun to work on it.
I'm not sure the year perhaps from 50's after WWWII.
Not sure about the Variant either.
Perhaps:
TOZ-8M — is a single-shot .22LR, bolt action cadet rifle. It is an improved TOZ-8 that was developed after World War II.[2]
TOZ-8OPF — is a single-shot .22LR, bolt action cadet rifle. It is the TOZ-8M produced by RPC Fort in Ukraine.

This is the most time consuming . Sanding down the stock by hand. Getting rid off scratches and dents.
I guess it's fun and rewarding. Smells like an old furniture.

I gifted this exact same rifle to my brother. It's very satisfying rifle with the right ammo, no wind and at 200 meters from a rest.

5 hours? You didn't get an ROS with 80 grit pads yet??

I'm curious if they used curly arctic birch for the stocks or it's some sort of russian finish technique.
I have 2 Toz, 16 and 17. Love em. Prefer em every day to any Cooey out there. The iron sights are just perfect for me.

I believe the 8 was more for target shooting, hence the hooded front sight but i could be wrong.

Real nice one on the EE right now, finish is still in great condition.

Yeah 5hrs including breaks in between .... lol....
Started with 150 then 120 then 80 then 60 then 40 ..... then I was seeing some result .... LOL....
I'm thinking to stain it back with American Dark Walnut .....

They are not Russian. The red one on the stock is Czech/Slovak "Hlavni Vypinac" meaning "Main switch". The yellow one reads "Bulgaria. Mihailovgrad.". The latter is a city in Bulgaria nowadays re-named "Montana". Mihailovgrad was a communist name.
I have no idea why they were attached to that TOZ 8 rifle. Perhaps that rifle was travelling a bit through the Eastern Europe?

Toz8 rifles are one of the best kept secrets concerning very accurate 22rf rifles for a long time.

They're rough and rugged and shoot like lasers, with ammo they like. They even shoot ammo they don't like as well or better than much more expensive rifles.

I wonder if those stickers denote participation in a specific match? In North America bullseye pistol matches the participant has to present his target pistol for brief inspection by a match official. After it's cleared for that match a sticker is attached in the grip area and it's okay to use it for this match.
Plus as these are former communist nations surprize police inspection is not outside the possibility.
A match sticker might alay suspicisions possible illegal activity with a firearm. Such as poaching.
