I used remington 40xb repeater barreled actions back in the day to build my four rifles
You do know that there is no difference between a regular 700 and a 40x right .I have had lots of 40x and I measured and checked them .Maybe a better trigger and a trued bolt and reciever that is it.

That is a seizure inducing paint job...

Very nice!! I could go for that,;):) but preferably in a European calibre.

An American built Model Seven with plywood stock would be very fitting in 35 Remington. One of those would be at or very near the top of my WTB gun list.

If that was an FN-98, it would have to be one of the x57 chamberings. Probably 9.3x57.

Just looking for thoughts as to what components would you pick for a dream build hunting rifle.

Criteria: 1) Easy to carry relatively compact rifle capable MOA out to 400 yards for the usual Canadian game.

What would you pick ?
a) Action
b) cartridge that is not a big magnum
c) barrel ( make and contour)
d) Stock ( make and style)

Budget under 4K without scope.

I don’t think the OP was asking about a factory rifle

How about this one...

Anything I "dream" about is WAY over the 4K budget. If it is under 4K, no need to dream, just do it.

I've never had any real dream of building or owning a certain firearm....................... I had may dreams of hunting big game and birds, which I prefer to dream.

Nothing quite like spending imaginary money, in an attempt to inflate an ego, while at the same time providing a put down. Here and on the first page as well.
How very droll.
Or is it troll.

The fella asked a straightforward question, with more than reasonable parameters. No need to take the opportunity.

WOW .... <eye roll>

Not sure about that. Hammer prices can be deceptive, especially at Maynard's.

Maynards' has an excessive buyer's premium (plus additional credit card fees), a lot more than any other auction that I am familiar with. These fees, plus the taxes and shipping can easily double the hammer price, depending on where you live. Maynards also charges $65. just to put a gun in a cardboard box. That is in addition to the $50. per gun for shipping. Its really bad if you buy low: A $75. (hammer price) gun will quickly turn into a $200 gun. Maynards also never lists bore condition, not even a rough estimate...so you never know what nasty surprise might be waiting for you upon bore inspection.

Never bought anything through them, and not likely to. Sure appreciate the heads-up, Rob.

Thanks,
Ted

A Sako model 75 in a Macmillan stock with a Benchmark barrel in 6.5x47 Lapua would be nice.
