The question: to paint or not to paint. . . pay more to paint?

To paint or not to paint, that is the question.

I guarantee every single person on this forum has rattlecann'd something or other. Raw steel, paint them whatever turbo highspeed operator colours you like when they show up at your door. REAL pros know that you paint your gongs AFTER you hang them.

Surface rust aint a big deal. If you buy these things and let them rust to the point they're actually damaged then why are you buying them in the first place.

A good option might be to just make it an option on the website. "Targets come as raw steel - +$20 for painted"

If 70% of people as indicated by this poll want it raw anyway, you could end up saving time not painting targets you otherwise would have given a quick spray job by default. Then only bother spending the time on it for people that really want it and are willing to pay for your time.

^^^ exactly this^^^

I have recently ordered a few targets from you. Waiting on shipping next week.
I would want them painted and would not want to pay extra for a better paint job. I will do touch ups as needed to help them last longer

I would say offer the raw as standard and add an option for rust prevention paint for x$ amount.

That would leave you with the opportunity to have half your plates being sent raw the same day and specify that the painted option is an extra day or so.

also specify that the paint is for rust prevention and not for cosmetic value and I think you'd have a winner right there.

I'd say cheap paint just to help deter some corrosion.
I'd end up spray bombing them anyway, so saves a mess.
Not sure about stock options/levels, but maybe have a raw option?

If I could save 2$ by not having it painted I would. The paint gets shot off anyways. If it wasn’t for shipping regulations I’d say throw a cheap can of spray paint in with the target and ship it bare.

I vote not painting them at all. Sure, it would be nice if it were painted, but if it means that much to the customer it can be fixed with a can of rustoleum from Cambodian Tire. A decrease in cost may lead to an increase in customers.

On a side note, just visited your website for the first time. If I need any targets ill be letting you know and supporting Canadian business!

Ya, I can paint them myself no worries!! I’ve purchased your products to Yellowknife before and I plan on ordering more. The paint was a nice touch, I was more stoked on quality steel targets delivered to my door in the north for free at a very fair price! Thank you for the hard work!

Even left out to rust our targets (edit: and stands) will last a lifetime :), A is running a fun experiment leaving some 3/16 in lye for a few months just to see how the wear and tear goes.

I've never done it, but know the process from my trapping days: trap dying. First step was to submerse in lye to clean the metal before soaking in black dye... on guy used a free dye from Black Walnuts he crushed that fell from his walnut trees. A Red Maple swamp often will get them black anyway.

I digress: couldn't you just make condition a purchase option? Painted well or in the white. Stipulate with the paint job, delivery will take a few days longer (with a completely reasonable premium for the painting) and you can mix up a batch of paint and have at it to several sets at once... parcel them up in a couple days meanwhile the guys who are not picky will be getting theirs shipped in the white in the usual time period.

Anyone who complains about a paint job on a target clearly doesn't have anything better to do. Just do it how I do with my woman and raw dog the sh*t outta it.
