Hi guys!

I am getting a 1911 .45
For wife reason, I can only get a cheap one.
i am also thinking about get a gsg 22lr conversion kit for it, so the 1911 has to be a 5".

First time 1911 owner, if it was me I'd go for one of the unmarked Norinco 1911A1's.

Generally, they run fine stock out of the box.

I have a Girsan 1911, it’s a nice looking gun but it has ftf issues and it shoots low. Pretty sure the ftf is mag related and I’ve shot it off bags and it still shoots low, I’ve tuned the extractor, polished the feed ramp, replaced the recoil spring. None of that solved the fail to feed, happens 1-2 times a mag, if I was going to buy a cheap 1911 again it would be a Norc. I got the gun in trade and I don’t mind tinkering and tuning it so it could be worse, I wouldn’t spend money on one though. A girsan offering in 9mm that isn’t a 1911, sure thing. They’re beretta copy sounds great.

Fit and finish is pretty nice, the stock grips are cheap plastic. I made a set out of ebony, grip screws are metric and not standard 1911 threaded screws.

The Norc 1911s seemed to have got better, over the years. I have about 20 of them, in 4 different calibers, and they all shoot well.

Most of mine got new grips, and most got a trigger job because they needed it, and many got better sights because I am a target shooter.

If they needed any fine tuning, it was minor stuff - the kind of thing that every 1911 owner becomes aware of.

I also have some high-end 1911s (like from Colt). They are better finished inside, but are no more accurate and no more reliable.

Some of the new Norcs have had good triggers right out of the box.

Theres 2 rem 1911 for sale at a local store.
One is an R1, the other is R1 enhanced .
R1 is around$600
Enhanced is around $800
That was a few days back ,so they probably stil have them.

I recently purchased the RIA ,government model and the trigger and sights were awful.
It got both upgraded now ,but it will increase your cost..lolView attachment 462687

Yes, it takes any standard Colt 1911 mag.

Mag quality is a big variable in the market. The quality mags that work well are Chip McComick, Wilson and MeGar.

The $10 mags are not worth the trouble.

Every part of the Norc is Colt M70 compatible, except the grip bushings and the front sight dovetail. The grip screws are Colt, but the bushings are not. I have never in my life needed to change a bushing.

The rear sight dovetail is Colt. You can buy a LPA or whatever adjustable sight and it will slide right in. The front dovetail is undersize. If you want to install a fibre optic, for example, the gunsmith will have to cut the dovetail a bit wider.

Theoretically any make of 1911 mag should fit the Norc. Pro-Mag has a spotty record of reliability but anything Mec-Gar is typically top notch quality and usually for less money.

Personally, I've had success running Mec-Gar mags in my Norc mfg 1911's.

Most of would be, I shot a .45" group one time, center of the X; changed targets so I did not screw it up, rest went down hill.
There are lots of good 1911's aready in this country with out have to pay US$ and fees .
Last I checked on the GSG kits they where out of stock, But that was months ago.
I had a kit in stock, it was not GSG kit, Colt and it would work on a commander length of gun ,ie NP27's , but there was a little gap at the dust cover.
There is one on the EE now , but 175.oo over new cost, great guns thou.
Go to eq. exchange, handguns, top of the page you will see Parts for sale , and also Wanted to buy , WTT , click on that and you can make a post .
BTW , any mag should work, even the crap chinese, they will cut your thumps, I use what ever, but Shooting stars are great, , as well as ATC, Mag Gar.
Trade Ex has / had some 12.oo no name , and I have had great luck with them, I think they could be SAM .

Rather than start a new thread and get flamed, I am hijacking this one! (And will probably get flamed)

I am deciding between an SDS Military 1911 9mm and a SAM same type. Price is about the same. Can I hear from people who own these how well they work?

A better question might be which 1911's are forged. I would think most frames and slides today are cast. Certainly not all but 1911's selling for under $1,200 Cdn likely are cast. I know the Norcs are forged. I am less sure about the 1911's coming out of the Philippines. I would think the Kimbers, Rugers and Smiths are cast frames and slides. My tenure with 1911's started and ended with Norcs with two cast Paras that have since been sold off. I never found any difference in quality between other 1911's be they cast or forged. I do know some prefer forged over cast but I have never understood why. I would think forged frames and slides would add additional cost which in turn would increase the selling price with little gain in quality for the consumer.

Nork will always be the best value in the cheap guns. I have had one for a few years. A few thousand rounds through it an no issues; great trigger and very accurate. All forged high tensile steel. Mine is satin chrome with the adjustable target trigger. Save your money and don't bother with the GSG conversion; I owned one for two days. Got it and 4 mags in a trade. I installed it, and it fed and worked just fine, but the accuracy compared to shooting .45 was pitiful. You can not practice with an inaccurate gun and expect to get better. If you can not afford to buy .45 ammo, then consider reloading, or just buy a .22.
 
Maybe take a look at the Shooters Arms Manufacturing (SAM) on Wolverine Supplies site. They're well made and delightfully free of any unnecessary writing, logos, etc...
I have the Commander .45 and have never had a malfunction. I find the grip a little short for big hands but might be good for a lady.

I don't think anyone makes cast slides, Para use to and they broke frequently.
Cast frames are pretty common, don't pose any issues.
