double-tap?

double tap refers to 2 quick shots in the direction of the enemy when coming under fire. Some consider this drill a waste of ammo since the shots arent aimed.

In general the double tap is just 2 quick shots, whether aimed or not.

I believe that in some circles it is known as a controlled pair.

Disaster Monkey, AFAIK you are very much correct in that the third round (to the head) makes it "Mozambique" drill. IIRC the origin of the term is from the just-post-colonial era in (surprise) Mozambique.

I have also herd the term used as two to the chest one to the head and Mozambique'd in this show called dexter.

Yeah, two shots basically as fast as you can, usually at center of mass. NOT one to the chest and one to the head, that's two specific, aimed shots and that's not a double tap. Double taps can work at close range...purposely aim low on the first round and you'll likely get a decent hit on the second as well. I'm not real fan of them however; actually aiming each shot isn't much slower with practice. And also with heavier calibers the double tap is much less effective.

Isn't the double tap 2 shots to the chest and one to the head?

that would be 3 shots.

body armour drills or failure to stop drills can also include 2 to the body, then 1 or 2 to the pelvic region. Reason for that aiming area instead of head is because of target size. while you might not kill someone by breaking their pelvis with a round, they will drop to the ground pretty quick, no matter what drugs they are on. you kind of need the pelvic girdle to support you if you want to run or walk. aiming at the head increases chances of a miss dramatically.

A controled pair is two aimed shots with two definate sight pictures .
double tap when done properly has the two shots close together because
you are shooting two shots as quickly as you can press the trigger. No need
to aim lower on the first shot.

double tap

:50cal::50cal: necessary in ipsc for a higher score - necessary in cqb because pistol bullets make the targets very angry and they will kill u and many of your comrades before they bleed out - thats why the U.S. army went back to the .45's after the battles with the moro's - in the trenches they found many dead G.I.'S hacked with machetes and one tiny phillipino with 20 or 30 .38 cal holes

double tap

oh god here we go again. yay for internet/gunstore myths.

lottsa history info on multi 38 cal hits on the moro's being ineffective, even ontario cops had 38's bouncin off of car windshields, so they went to a wadcutter style bullet until the .40 cal. came along - (the square shoulder bullets also bounced of glass - just not as often -lol

that would be 3 shots.

I heard some swat guy on tv talk about a double tap being two to the chest and one to the head... I never understood why he called it a double tap lol

I always figured that just the 2 shots to the center mass would make more sense.

Tactical Weapons And Training (that would be T.W.A.T.) officers are not known for their intellect - usually jock types who spend to much time in gyms and are usually selected for there ability to follow orders without question . I wouldnt believe what one says on the idiot box - specially one who cant count - A triple tap - also known as an Israeli triple tap or a Mozambique puts the 3rd round in the apricot in case the goblin is wearing armour.

As to up or down triple - depends on the range - a down triple may also miss and only shoot off the end of his end ! - lol
