Just picked up a box of .284" 140 gr partitions at cabelas for 39.99. Great deal right? Well no. Approx 10 of the bullets are a lead nosed Spitzer and the rest are a red plastic tipped bullet with a cannelure? No idea what they are and it was a factory sealed box. I guess I got duped. I haven't weighed either yet and will be giving nosler a phone call tomorrow.

Red tipped flat base nosler bullets in 7mm? Never heard of em! Something is certainly off here.

They do use red tips on the 7mm ballistic tips but those would be boat tail bullets without a cannelure.

Do either bullet have exposed lead on the bottom? Partitions should due to their dual core design. Doesn't look like the red ones have lead on the bottom.

Weird. For sure call Nosler and send them the pic. I'm sure they will want to know what is going on with their product and will likely replace the bullets for you.

That's odd, but not unheard of. I have had a factory sealed box of Hornady .308" 150 grain Spire point bullets that had a couple of their same weight/style bullets meant for the .303 British mixed in. One got stuck in the seating die or I would not have noticed. And a factory sealed bag of Remington .224" 55 gr bullets that had a couple 9mm pistol bullets mixed in.
Neither gave me confidence in Hornady or Remington products.

So I just got home from supper. The red tipped ones are .322" 165gr. I'm thinking hornady 170gr sst but it's weird they are flat based. The lead tipped ones are a 130gr .308" and there's 19 of them. 28 of the red ones. Someone must have tried to pull a fast one on cabelas but they were sure able to reseal the box well. I also thought cabelas didn't do returns on any components.

Very interesting. Still planning to call Nosler about it, or just going to return them at this point?

Also, 165gr .321cal FTX maybe? https://www.hornady.com/bullets/rifle/32-cal-321-165-gr-ftx#!/

Ya I bet that is it. Good find. Thanks. I think I will call nosler. But I will also be visiting cabelas to try and return or exchange. I'm bummed cause I really wanted to try 140 partitions and 39.99 is an unreal price. Too good to be true I guess.

I once found a single .17 cal 25gr bullet in a unopened box of Hornady 55r SX .224 before the round was commercially available.
