Hey everyone I am looking for something that I can shoot .22 that is not too expensive.
Right now I have been shooting a friends glock with a conversion kit which I absolutely love but not cheap to buy.
I am still new to the shooting world so I don't even know where to begin to look nor what I am looking for...
any ideas or suggestions on what to look for and maybe even where?

Thanks

Since you have already shot a 22 why dont you move up to a 9mm.Ammo is a little bit more but its a good rnd and easy to handle.Lots of good deals on Glocks right now.Theres one in the EE right now for 600 bucks NIB.For that price you cant go wrong. If your still set on a 22 then i would recomend a ruger MKII.They are built well.

Do you prefer an auto? Ruger and Browning make popular 22 semiauto handguns. Personally I like the old High Standard 22's, but they are scarce and pricey.

I love my Browning challenger II, but they are scarce. Go for a ruger auto/revolver and dont look back.(unless you can find a K-22:))

It all depends on how much $$ you are willing to trow at this project.

I'm a big fan of 22's, so I won't try to sell you on the centerfire pistol... just yet!

If you don't mind used "club" gun, Tradeex as some decent deal from the $100 revolver to the $250 Beretta 76

For $275, you can get a new MCM (Ask for details ;))

$400(Blue) or $500(Stainless) will get you a new Ruger Mk3

Have you inquired at your club to see if anybody had anything for sell? This way you could most likely try it before you bought it...

Safe shooting,
Mike.

This is what my wife shoots...

It's a Browning Buckmark Lite Splash.
She loves it and it is really nice to shoot and quite accurate.
It's in the $450 range IIRC.
You'll get all the standard Buckmark and Ruger replies... they are all good firearms and reasonably priced.
If a revolver interests you, I would suggest a Ruger Single Six, with the extra cylinder for .22 magnum.
I hear the Hi Standards are quite good as well, but have no personal experience with them.

+1 on the Ruger. Great little pistol and very well made in any of it's iterations. When you are ready to move up to center fire there are a number of option in 9MM. When the time comes look for a gun that best fits your hands. CZ 75/Tanfoglio are two similar options that also have .22LR conversion kit options. The Glocks are nice IF you like their grips. The S&W M&P is out with three different grip options and frankly for me a much better grip than the Glocks.

Take Care

Bob

If you like the feel of the Glock with the conversion kit you may like the the Sig Mosquito .22lr. ( about $500) It's design is more like the centre fire pistols and does not have the handle canted as much as many of the .22 target models. Otherwise, Ruger, Browning, and many of the "old names" in target pistols are all great choices. My own favorite that I use is an old Browning Nomad which I find to be a nicely balanced gun (for me) and very accurate. The only thing I don't like about it is that it does not have a locking slide.... well that and the fact it hasn't been manufactured for 30+ years. Shoot as many friends guns and club guns as you can and find the one that says it wants to go home with you !

One of the best value gun (accurate and not expensive) is the Ruger Mark II or now Mark III. Good condition used are about $300.

Thanks everyone I do actually like the grip on the glock...Not big into revolvers just yet but I am open to try again at some point... I was looking at some things from tanfoglio today and was intrigued but still not sure whats best for me yet.

sillymike the MCM is nice...

jasonburnsdundee where can I find more information on the Norinco you speak of?

Thanks again everyone

Visit Marstar Canada, a sponsor frequently listed in the banners at the top for more details on the Norinco .22. They're not the nicest, but a certainly the cheapest.

If you're thinking about moving up to something better in the future, I'd pass on the norinco and look at a used model in the $300 range. They hold their value well and resell quickly.

Beretta Neos

How come nobody mentioned yet the futuristic Neos.
I have one for about three months, it works perfect and shoots good groups.

Mk III

My girlfriend got a Ruger MkIII stainless - she found that she liked it best of the .22s she tried, largely because she found the grip angle to be very similar to that of her Glock-17

Neos is not bad, but the grip is too small for me...

I have a Norinco .22 and while there are better guns out there it's a good deal for the money!
