What barrel fits flush with a +2 Remington mag extension

Hey guys-don't see the post (I thought?) I posted earlier today...? Regardless, I've always liked the looks of those older 870 Police "builds", and finally have my old Wingmaster, a Remington blued +2 and barrel clamp=now to find a barrel!

I'm after one of the blued/rifle sights/smoothbore barrels as I had a parkerized barrel with the same sights on my 870P some time ago, and loved shooting with it. Anyhow, I had someone recently ask; "are you looking for an 18.5", or 20" barrel?" First off, I can't say as I knew both existed...or did they? On older guns? My research (whopping 5 minutes on Google :) ) suggests it's an 18.5" req. to make it flush to the Remington +2, hoping one of you gunners can confirm that?

Feel free to post pics, I'd love to see any minimal/un-painted/no MagPul/no cerakote/no optics old school build pics!

870's can come with 6 1/2- 8 1/2- 10- 12 1/2- 14- 16 1/2- 18 and 20 inch barrels for "social purposes". As noted, the +2 is flush with an 18 inch pipe, which is the normal length for a US "Police" version due to US Laws restricting shotgun barrel length.
 
Older 870s, which had true 18" barrels had a slight "underbite" with a factory +2, like so:

Then at some point they lengthened the standard "riot" barrel length to 18.5 and both tubes run nearly flush.
 
Exactly, 18.5” is flush, not 18”. 18” is flush with Scattergun Tech +2 extensions.

Thanks Leg. Does anyone know the part# for a blued, smoothbore, 18-1/2" rifle-sights barrel? Either I'm looking for the wrong thing, or in the wrong places. lol At least with a part#, I might be able to narrow the search. Thanks!
 
Can’t help with the part numbers but try Gravel. They were the distributor and still have parts.

Well, I just finished my blued 870 Police project.

- Blued 870 Police with 18.5" barrel
- Got a Remington front sight ramp soldered to the barrel, and the barrel re-blued
- Got a Scattergun Tech Tritium ghost ring sight blued and installed
- Had to try 3 different front sight heights. The highest Tritium one that XS Sights makes (.600) for Remington would shoot to point of aim at 50 meters.
- Got an S&J +2 extension polished an blued
- And I ordered a B Grade Walnut stock set from Gravel and installed it.
- Installed a Timney trigger fix for the 870
- Installed a Van Comp oversized safety ... and today I shortened the safety spring to reduce the effort needed to disengage the safety.

Basically, the build is done .... working on a leather sling now ..... :)

Hey guys-posting again, only more out of frustration than anything else. Beginning to wonder if the barrel I'm after even exists. Can anyone advise? So, I've been told 18-1/2" sits flush...but 18-1/2" barrels (blued, smoothbore, rifle sights) just don't seem to exist. 18-1/2" with bead? They seem to. 18-1/2" parkerized w rifle sights=yep. 20" blued/smoothbore, rifle sights=found a few.

Seriously asking-does this barrel exist and if you know, what is/was Remington's part#?

I'm always up for a fight when it comes to finding things, but not even hint/rumor on this one...no sign I "just missed" one that was listed, etc. Nothing. lol Before anyone gets saucy, yes, I have a sense of what's happening with the company. :) I'm impressed at the lengths people go to "build" the gun, get the barrel they want even with custom jobs=very cool. Just after a factory look, and be done with it, and I'm only keen on a rifle-sights option. Possibly a bead, but the plan is to run slugs=sights better.

Perhaps I sourced the wrong mag extension-I snapped-up the first blued one that crossed my path. I believe it's a +2 (6-3/4" long) but if a longer one would unlock the opportunity to find the barrel I want, perhaps that's the route to go. I don't actually care if the barrel is 20", just want it flush.

Getting close to throwing in the towel and moving onto some other distraction, but would welcome any input/ideas.

I'd be ok with the "underbite" of a 18" barrel with a +2 extension, as the protruding extension helps protect the muzzle from dings, and even effectively serves as a standoff device.

I was looking for a 18-1/2" barrel (blued, smoothbore, rifle sights) a couple years back and I gave up. My conclusion at the time .... Remington never made such a barrel or it was dropped a long time ago from the product list. All I could order was a 20" blued barrel with rifle sights from Gravel ....
