I am putting this out there for those that shoot the match or would shoot the match. What would you like to see in regards to rule changes etc. in the coming year? I have made a few changes but I want to see where the competitors want to see this match headed. We are in discussion with Alberta in regards to trying to find a common ground for a common set of rules for Tac rifle and Saskatchewan potentially will be running a service conditions program with these rules also. So, what say you? What do you want to see?

I've often thought about shooting in this match, but I've assumed that Bob Pitcairn would kick my ass if I did, because it would mean taking my time away from TR...

Having said that, I understand that the rules call for .308 or .223 with a magazine. As it happens, I have a .308 with a magazine now. On the other hand, I don't see why you shouldn't be allowed to use a single shot in either caliber. If you want TR guys to shoot in this match, you need to remember that most of them use single shots. If you allowed single shots, then the Farkey F-Class guys could compete with their rifles, too.

(I'm saying this because I am assuming that the rules were not changed recently to allow for single shots.)

Single shots are allowed in open class and always have been.
You should come out and shoot and not worry about what other people think. The more trigger time the better and....its way more fun to boot! ;)

The reason the rules are the way they are is to preserve the spirit and intention of the match as this is a service conditions event. I also don't know of any .30 cal or smaller singleshot sniper rifles that are, or have been in use.
Furthermore to that,
if I wanted to shoot service rifle with my sniper rifle, that's not allowed,
if I wanted to come shoot F(f) with my 175gr bullet, that's not allowed,
if I wanted to shoot Tr off a bipod with a scope, that's not allowed,
if I wanted to shoot Tr like everyone else off my elbows and a sling but with a 175gr bullet, that's not allowed either.

Anyways, I think you see where I am going with this. Many things in life are blocked by rules, some with good reasoning, while things like bullet weight rules not so much. The Open class is there for anyone who wants to use it, there is an Agg trophy, plaques and a pick at the prize table afterwards, but so far no takers? I would love to see the Open Class full of F-Classers and Tr shooters, we'll see this year. Are you going to come out?

If you know of any shooter who wants to give it a go my email address is in the BCRA Marksman in my Tac rifle report, plus I am available here, or Pm me and I will give you my list of phone numbers. The ball is in your court, we would love to have you guys out to a match.

Your balls are where? :p

I wouldn't change anything, except maybe to have two of them per year. But what do I know.

Noel, I would love that too. I am thinking about doing two small one day ones on the island before the two day in June. We'll see, right now I have way too many irons in the fire with trying to sort out the service rifle on the island, trying to start service conditions back home and this nagging by my triggerfinger to joint CScotR, while my brain is yelling"No,No,No!"

I am all for the rules that keep the spirit of the match intact. It's a ####ing "sniper" match. not an F class or TR match. There are plenty of matches out there for those guys to use that gear in. If you want to shoot the course of fire with those guns, fine, but not for score in the match.

If I come out to this, It'll be my first year, so go easy....

I've read the rules and have a couple of questions:

I'll be either using a 700VS in .308 or a Savage VLP in .223 - considering both are 'varminting' guns are they lumped into 'open'?

Last match is a '3 gun' - Is the containment rifle a bolt gun you use for the rest of the match, or a semi auto used just for that serial?

2.04 Rifles :
1 - Tactical Rifle:
a. Current issue Police, Military or Military surplus type sniper rifles.
b. Calibers - .223 / 5.56, 308 / 7.62, .303, 30-06, 7.62x54.
c. Actions - Any
d. Barrel length - 686mm/27 inch maximum measured from boltface to muzzle.
e. Weight - 8.25kg/ 18.15 lbs maximum. with all attachments that you intend to use throught the event. (Bipod, stock buttpack, empty magazine, sunshade, sling etc.)
f. Rifle must have internal or external magazine.
g. Rifles must meet the minimum triggerpull of - 1kg/2.2 lbs.
2 – Tactical rifle OPEN:
a. Any safe rifle and equipment not meeting Division #1 Tactical Rifle equipment rules.
b.Any caliber under 8mm. Wildcat calibers allowed. Magnums not allowed due to range license restriction.

Either your .308 or .223 will fit the Tac class as long as it fits the rest of the rules concerning triggerpull, non-singleshot, weight rule etc.

The 3-gun match team will have one bolt rifle, one semi auto and two pistols.

The regular rules are good. The only major change I can think of in the event would be the use of reactive targets for some of the stages so you can see if you are hitting, in real tac shooting I think your target would react when hit ;)
