South African 7.62x51

LOL

Assyrian, I started this just to find out if it's crap ammo or not.

No secrecy....I just wanted to buy a case before 3 or 4 fellow gunnutz ran down there. I guess I'm guilty of some hoarding, but I didn't know how many they had left. That's beside the fact that everyone and their mother is picking it up, just like the czech M43. It seems there is a healthy supply.

"5 and change": I don't remember the exact amount and didn't want to be quoted on it. I think it was something like 550 or 565. It works out to about 45 cents a round, which is way cheaper than feeding my .30-06!

I agree on the labeling thing, "match" may sound a lot better than "military ball" to some bureaucrat. (although "military ball" is inherently LESS lethal than the alternatives)

Cheers!

I got a couple of cases of South African 7.62x51 a year or so ago for my 2 Norc M14's. The headstamp is 1984 and the primers have a purple ring around them and are staked.

I'm punching the primers in at least 2 if not 3 rounds out of every 5rnd mag. Anyone else experience the same problem? Both the Norcs came from the same batch from Marstar about 3 years ago. Haven't tried them in anything else.

The Portuguese 7.62x51 (FNM-78) that I got a few years back operates flawlessly.

Hey 'CanAm'

If.....A person was to buy from you at the 'HAC' could one assume you would be selling as an 'individual' and not a 'business'...And as such there would be no PST/GST;)

I inquired with Districorp and they passed on this info:

We purchased a small quantity of PMP .308 FMJ, mid 1990’s manufacture, from a U.S. distributor, in order to supply the Canadian market. Unfortunately, we had to pay a higher price since we did not get it directly from overseas. We can offer limited quantities of this .308 as follows:

Packed: 560 rounds per carton (20 rounds per box, 7 boxes per sleeve, 4 sleeves per carton)

Price: $336.00 per carton, plus shipping, plus taxes.

There was a ton of the South African 7.62 in the UK about 2 years ago, I"m down to 3 or 4 hundred rounds out of about 2500. It"s the mutt"s nutts!
It is very accurate, cheap and reliable. Unfortunately, no-one has brought any more in lately, and the British stuff is crap(minute of barn, gpmg ammo)
I bought some European(Chzech?) stuff for shooting cowdung in the summer(a favourite pastime of mine!) and that"s about all it"s good for.
PMP,PMC, RG etc are all ok, but only for plinking. The SA stuff shots better than it should for the price. Next time I see it, I"ll be taking all I can carry!

Yeah...We are still waiting to see what 'CanAm' has up his sleeve as per origin and quantity...But Im thinking it will be more than 299.00 'shipped' to N. Ireland:eek:
