IMR 4166 works great , I developed on my 308 Garand as well , shoots great , all I can say is pretty close to VARGET or in between 4195 and no temperature effect on performance.

Rifle looks Awesome! what trigger are they using in that? Am I right assuming that its a two lug action?

Shhh stop telling people about 4166 or there'll be a shortage of that too haha

May I ask you how much that Beauty weights, all in with scope and bipod but with an empty magazine ?

Une carabine qui a du panache !

I am going to weight it , I guess all together 10.5 or 11 lb all with empty 5rd mag
that was exactly my goal to build one with standard fill McMillan A4 , the original M40A5 is sniper fill stock , I have another M40A3 ( in the last photo) that is over 14lb

Oui, exactement

oh ok , I have never test that , I'm a kind of old school , but as far as I can tell is sign of over pressure appears on 43.8 gr , danger zone

I was shooting out of an AI at 42 gr and that was a little hot slight primer mushroom but man did they shoot good. I can't imagine 43.8 those gotta be cooking

Thanks. Was curious how fast you could go with that powder. For reference I push 175 class bullets around 2700-2750 in a 26" barrel and 2615 in a 20" with 43.3gr of Varget.

That's pretty close to my favourite round/formula for 20-26" with a a 1:11.25 twist rate. I use 43.4 of varget. For the 1:10 twist rates I've always had to shoot higher velocity to get the accuracy node. Usually 44 to 44.3 of varget (usual disclaimers here of work up and do so at own risk).

I use 175 SMK with CCI BR primers and either Federal or Winchester brass. Sometimes Lapua brass if I have some. I keep mine at the 2.8 OAL . It's a one round has to work in multiple rifles scenario.

Unfortunately the current Federal gold is about 43 of varget. In a 1:10 twist I find it gives just under 1 moa, which is crap. Your results may vary.

Very nice. I had been thinking of doing something similar. Really wanted one of the older PGW in 308 with the A5 but we know how that went.... Prices were astronomical as well for the few remaining out there. Then I looked at the barreled action. But.. I was thinking I really want one in tan and they only had green available (1 left at the time) for the M15. So that didn't happen.

I'm still debating a similar project only with the Cadex R7 barreled action. But... the spiral fluted barrel of the PGW is an attention grabber. Looks do play a role. Was thinking maybe R7 action in tan and then get the barrel from International barrels. So the project has stayed as an idea only. Living vicariously by your project :) .

Quick question, did you get the McMillian A5 from EE or sponsor/direct?

Nice rifle/project. Thanks for sharing!!

Yeah, 43.3gr of Varget behind a 175 (RDF in my case) has been a great load in 2 different 26" 1:10tw barrels and still shoots great in one of them I had chopped to 20" (and it's well over 5k rounds). I've had to adjust the load from lot to lot of Varget but it's always between 2700-2750 (in 26"), this is LC or PMC brass with CCI BR2s.
