Your 2 cents on Norinco pistols

I am thinking of getting back my restricted licence after several years without it, and am considering Norinco pistols. I am wondering about the 1911 series, the CZ and the SIG clones. are they good pistols ? What about the finition on it ? The price seem more than reasonable, but quality wise I need some feedback from those who know more about these pistols.

I will be looking for a pistol for fun shooting only. NO competition.

Do yourself a favor and buy a real pistol, not some el cheapo chinese knock off. Trust me, in the long run, you'll be happy you did.
 
i have Norinco M93, there clone of the Colt Woodsman .22. for the amount i use it is a great a little gun, and pretty darn accurate. if i where able to get out shooting more then once every month or so, i would probably have something a little better, but for my uses she's a sweet little gun. just wish i could get a couple of quality magazines for it....

Agreed. Try the search function, this topic has been debated before. There's got to be atleast one similar thread for every model of Norinco pistol.

I have the Tokarev copy. After two thirds of a crate of surplus ammo the pistol is beginning to lock up at times. I blame the lacquer on the steel casings and my laziness to clean the pistol (except the barrel).
The 1911 copy I have is superb. During my Black Badge course I used this 45 and I had not one problem with it while the Sigs, Kimbers and CZ's were stopping for one reason or another. Feeding is excellent. This pistol will feed all the rounds I put through it including HP's and semi wad cutters. It is one reliable pistol.

The Norc 1911's are a good value for the money if you just want an econo 1911 in either .45 or 9mm. Overall I've been happy with the one's I've had considering the meager outlay for them.

I've had my Nork 1911 since 94 and have shot 5000+ through it. The only problems I had were after trying to load hot rounds and broke the slide stop.

I sent it to Armco and had it tuned up and am very happy with it. All in all it still cost me less to add a couple of after-market parts and have it tuned than to buy a brand name and have to tune it anyways.
 
You get what you pay for, and the Norinco's are dirt cheap for reasons other than the fact that their made in China.

A firearm is something that can really mess you or someone else up if it malfunctions or breaks (unlike, say, a cheap pair of shoes). I suggest you add a few bucks to your budget and buy something of better quality - and buy what you want the first time and then keep it for a long time.

Norincos, no matter how dressed up, have ZERO range cred - you'll be looked upon as someone who is a raging novice who doesn't know any better or else as someone who should have known better. Oh yeah, forget about any resale value...

The Norinco guns are sloppy and your accuracy will be frustrated, and so will you.

The 1911's are good, as is the NZ85b.....I've won or placed in many matches with mine......

Those that trash them seem to be trying to justify their (over) spending..........

You sir sound like a snobby elitist with your statements. If norinco's are crap, why do so many of us buy them?

Why does everyone know Armco is the place to go to give them a lil loving?

No range credibility........right if you say so bud.
 
I'd buy another Norc just to stay in the Restricted category.
When had a 1911 it gave me no fuss, I shoulda kept it.
I've been looking at the CZ variants since the 9mm 1911 Gov't suddenly went out of stock(Marstar).
 
Mine was cheap and it worked ALL of the time. Needed some TLC from Armco to get accuracy up to my standard.

Buy the Norc, shoot it, have fun and then buy a high end 1911 when you can afford it.

There's nothing finer in this world than a high end 1911.:D
 
Don't listen to the elitist product snobs. I have a number of different Norc pistols. With a proper cleaning on receipt, they have all functioned as well as my higher end firearms, over thousands of rounds. I have also never been disappointed with the accuracy. Some needed sight adjustment to bring it where it was supposed to be, but so did the Colt and the Beretta.

If they were as bad a some let on, the E&E forum would be flooded with them at discount prices. There is really no more there than high end stuff. There are thousands of happy Norc owners out there. Anyone who looks down their nose at someone, because of their firearms choice, is not someone worth associating with anyway. These are the same type that used to slag me for using my Winchester 1400 to shoot skeet against their presentation Remingtons. They were still sneering at me every time I trounced them and walked away grinning.

The Norcs are functional tools. If your on a budget or only shoot a few times a month, buy the Norc. Use the extra cash for ammo.
 
I own a 1911 commander and once owned the sig 228 copy. They are/were both accurate and reliable. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.
 
i've got a couple , and i'm thoroughly satisfied with both the tok and and them93- moreover , a lot of people down south use the 1911s as basis for their custom jobs- sure they strip the internals out, but it's still a 1911 frame- remember there are folks that maintain the ONLY 1911S AND AR 15S ARE COLTS- well, i've been in this game 30 plus years and my safe has not only COLTS, but remingtons, brownings , norincos , springfields, and a bunch of others as well- getting what you pay for is b/s- most of the time you get a good value unless you buy something really off brand,like something made in pakistan - and right now, the look at what the m305 /m14s/ whatever it's called now- it's the only battle rifle you can hunt with, and how many of us on the board have at least 1?- there are folks that say s& w is the only revolver, and won't look at a ruger- and pay several hundred more when new for that priviledge
 
I have $2,000 dollar pistols and keep them right beside my Norc's and I shoot them all. My 1911C is a tack driver, as is the NZ-85b, the M93 paid for itself several thousand rounds ago, my NP-22 cracked on me after 2000 rds, but from what I have heard they fixed that problem. Norks are getting better with each shipment. buy one, you will still have 1 penny rather than none, use the penny to buy ammo, shoot and shoot some more, as you get better go out and buy an nice gun and put it beside your Norc's, plus you can use it later to introduce others to the sport.
 
I own, or have owned SiG, Springfield, Para, S&W, Kimber, Ruger and Nork autos. Only 3 of these were .45 1911's.

Nork makes a decent pistol for the $. Mine functions flawlessly. It really can't be that technologically difficult to build a decent 1911, as some companies have been doing it for a century.

As one wise CGN put it: Fighting over who builds the best 1911, is like fighting over who builds the best abacus. There is nothing inherently complex in the design.

Yeah, forget about Norcs and go straight for a USP/P2000: you won't look back, I promise...
